After spending some time with Amy after school and getting their homework done, Tad returned home around 6:00 that night. He took off his shoes and set his backpack at the foot of the stairs before walking into the kitchen, where he saw his mom finishing up dinner.
“Hey Mom,” Tad said casually, walking towards her.
Jen turned to face him and smiled. “Oh, hi honey!” She said before giving her son a hug. “How was your day?”
“Pretty good,” Tad responded. “There was a fight before school started today. Two guys were arguing about the Big Reveal.”
Jen sighed, shaking her head. “Of course it was…nobody was hurt, right?”
Tad shook his head. “Not that I know of,” he said. “Some lunches were thrown, but I don’t think anyone was seriously hurt.”
“Well it sounds like things went ‘better’ than they did at the college…” Jen said.
“What do you mean? What happened at the college?”
“There was also a fight at the college today over the debate. A couple of punches were thrown at first, but then someone threw a rock and…and it hit Claire…”
“Oh my God! Is she okay?!”
“Yes yes, she’s fine. It required a few stitches, but the doctors said that it would have been much worse if she wasn’t a Werecat.”
“Where is she now?”
“She’s upstairs in bed. I’m letting her rest.”
Tad sighed. “God Mom, I’m so sorry you had to deal with that…”
“It’s alright Tad,” Jen said, hugging her son. “There’s really nothing you could have done to prevent it. Fights over the reveal are going to happen until a decision is made, whether they’re physical or verbal.”
“Right…” Tad sighed. “I just hope that none of my friends get too involved…”
