"I see," Marquis Rajes frowns in thought. "Well, I believe the situation of the estate will be made clear to you over time...therefore, can I assume that should your fears about your family's safety be allayed, you would consent to take the position?"
You're slightly uncomfortable. You know you are not in a position to ask questions, but this involves your little brother and sister. You can't agree to anything offhand, but you do not want to offend the marquis either.
"Well, the inhabitants of this estate each have their own pasts to contend with," Marquis Rajes nods, seemingly understanding your hesitation. "So while I cannot speak for each of them, I can explain a little regarding myself, and why this estate is still in my hands."
"My parents passed when I was young, leaving the estate to me as their heir. Being underage, my uncle saw to most matters, and I was left to my own devices. As such, I suppose I never learned to properly despise those who 'changed' upon coming of age," the marquis wryly smiles. "As some of my friends 'changed' in various ways, and were duly abandoned by society, I found it hard to accept, but with no power, I could do little to help."
"When I came of age, I 'changed' as well. With the help of some of the servants who had been loyal to my father, and then to me, I managed to keep my condition a secret and hide the symptoms, while finally coming into my inheritance. As you can see, I have a lot to lose should my vampirism be revealed," the marquis concludes, gazing at you. "Therefore, my life will be in your hands just as much as yours and your siblings' are in mine."
You listen carefully, and you have a feeling there is a lot the marquis is glossing over or simply avoiding explaining to you. However, it is true that his situation is just as precarious as your own, if not more so.
"As to our shared 'malady,'" Marquis Rajes stands up. "I had hoped we could continue our conversation over dinner."
