Coach Argent did not expect his day to constructive. It was the day where every student was given a chance to try out for the football team. Mostly there were the few hopefuls who should have never tried, but he sometimes would find one student who could warm the bench for a couple of years and maybe play a few games before graduating. So when he saw the boys coming onto the field looking like they lived in a gym, a large smile quickly spread across his face before vanishing as he regained his composure.
There were three. One was a mountain, about six and a half feet tall, broad as a barn, but Coach argent could not find the large amount of fat that usually came with the size. All the coach could think was that he would make a perfect left tackle. The next kid was a little over six feet tall, and while heavily muscled, still had was slim enough to move with a curtain amount of grace and speed, perfect for a running back. The last boy put the mountain to shame. Over seven feet tall, all the coach could think was to put him on the line and watch as he mowed down the opposition.
When he learned that none of the three boys knew how to play football, the coach was not discouraged. Instead, he got three of the seniors on the team and paired them with Jake, Tim and Mason. Coach Argent was determined he was going to have his three new recruits ready to play when the season started.
To say that Jake, Tim and Mason were nervous walking out onto the football field would be and understatement. Getting into the practice uniforms had taken the three longer then the rest of the potential players because they had trouble figuring out how everything went on, so they were not expecting any welcome from the coach, especially after he would learn none of them had ever played the game previously. They were especially surprised when the coach told them they were on the team and assigned each of them a senior player to get them ready for the season after only being on the field for a little over an hour. The try-outs were supposed to continue for another two hours.
