Chris looked through his various options, trying to make a spreadsheet of what he could do, but there were just too many permutations. Each species seemed to have different baseline stats and quirks went from shared to extremely unique, and there was no class limitation. He'd already taken half an hour to go through a mere quarter of the mammal options.
Maybe this game was trying to keep the mystery alive by making it too hard to minmax? Or maybe, Chris should just try to make a more roleplay-oriented character? There were more non-combat classes than there were combat, after all. On top of that, it appeared only one stat could be maxed out, but combat classes had numerous elements and he was wary of picking one at random. What if the meta element was the counter to his selection?
Chris moused over to Farmer. It had some fewer stats to pick from, but each stat sounded like it hit way more areas of expertise. The one that caught his eye was Productivity, in particular. Apparently, it magnified the results of all resources harvested from animals. Even if gathering crops or whatever fell through, it sounded like he could repurpose that stat into a skinning or butchery profession, maybe even some sort of alchemy work. All he had to do was pick a species that fit the farmer class.
He mulled over what kind of farm animal he'd choose. He wasn't really feeling chicken, even though he could do a Colonel Sanders or a Foghorn Leghorn joke. Pig was definitely out, as it was just unappealing to him. He briefly considered bull, but that reminded him to look over the cow option as well.
He couldn't believe his luck! One of the cow quirks was "Overproductive." The drawback was that his character would have an udder which needed daily milking, or else it would inhibit movement speed until milking was completed. To a normal player, that might sound like a terrible inconvenience, but to Chris, it was one free milking cow for his class to milk. Even if his Productivity stat didn't work on his own character, it was still an extra source that no non-werecow would be able to get.
He immediately decided to make a werecow, selecting that quirk, along with "Big-Boned," which made his character a size category larger for a greater loss in agility and dexterity. It seemed unique to the larger werebeast options, which cow fortunately fit into. Oddly enough, the "gender swap" quirk was automatically selected, but Chris didn't pay it much heed since he was getting the extra stat points regardless.
For the final step, Chris opted for it to be controlled by a cursed item. That kind of control was worth any drawback, and surely the dev put something in to reverse the effects or halt them for when people go on vacation or whatever. If worse came to worse, he could always drop the game and go play something else.
Hitting the create character button, Chris was surprised to see...Nothing at all. It simply said character generated and sent him back to the splash page, but he couldn't find his way to the actual game. He looked to see if some sort of private forum was now available, or maybe he was missing the download or something. He even tried going back into character generation, but all the fields were locked with what he had chosen, so surely the character went through?
Chris gave a frustrated sigh. Maybe those people on the forums had it right, and the install or game was actually hard to find. With how those threads never came up with a solution, maybe it didn't exist at all. He closed the Moonlight Rhapsody webpage. He'd need to contact the developer or check on it later to see if any updates have occurred. Until then, it was back to searching for a new game.
