After an excruciating day looking ahead to the appointment his own mother had so calmly made for him, Jared pounced, almost literally, the moment the impostor walked through the gate.
"Get over here!" Jared barked. "We've got to talk."
The impostor, wearing jeans and Jared's favorite shirt, turned, smiled, walked toward the sheepdog and patted the "new" dog's head. "How was your day, boy?"
Jared growled. "Don't call me that!"
"Look, I don't have much time," the impostor said. "What did you want?"
Jared growled in exasperation, but tried to calm himself. "What do you think I want?"
The impostor smiled smoothly and patted the sheepdog again. "Sorry, boy. I'm liking the new me."
"But you can't... you don't understand," Jared barked in fits and starts. He needed Shaggy's help. "Our parents... I mean my parents," he continued in confusion.
The impostor frowned. "I really don't have time for this," he said, turning to leave. "I've got a date."
"A date!" Jared barked in dismay.
"Yes, so if you don't mind..."
"Wait!" Jared pleaded with some miserable whimpering. "They've made an appointment to have me fixed!"
The impostor stopped in his tracks as the news caused a gloating grin to form on his face. "Is that so?"
"We've got to swap back," Jared barked out.
"I don't think so," the impostor said.
"But you can't let them..."
"But I should let them do it to me? Is that what you're saying?"
A flustered Jared barked wild promises. "I'll think of something," he barked. "I won't let them neuter you."
The impostor laughed. "As much as I would like to believe you, I like my chances better with Makayla."
"Makayla Simcox?"
"You know her?"
Jared whimpered more to think that his dog had managed to get a date with the hottest girl in his class.
"For 17 years, you haven't even known what to do with yourself around girls," the impostor scolded. "Time to let someone who knows what to do take charge."
"Listen to me," Jared demanded.
The impostor shook his head. "Listen to me, boy. Better go have some fun licking your own balls because it sounds like you won't have them for much longer. Sucks to be you, I guess."
Jared surrendered to a frenzy of canine anger, leaping about and straining at the lead as the impostor calmly walked into the house to prepare for his date with Makayla Simcox.
Poor Jared was left to contemplate the fact his own dog had managed a hot date while he faced his own date of another sort. No help seemed likely to come from the former family pet now masquerading in his relinquished body.
