Kayla scanned the room for a few moments and considered which member of her audience she should take a request from first. She had plenty of diverse options but soon settled on a young woman in the third row.
The brunette was pretty but a little overweight, appeared to have made a real effort to look her best for the occasion but had a sour look on her face as she held her arm firmly aloft, as if she wasn't enjoying herself at all.
Kayla instinctively knew the reason for this girl's displeasure. The young man sitting next to her was openly gawking in Lucy's direction and had Kayla had noticed him wolf whistle at her female volunteer when she had first brought her onto the stage. Even without being a witch Kayla could have sensed this guy was the young woman's date for the evening and Lucy had inadvertently overshadowed her. This was too interesting an opportunity to pass up and besides, she couldn't let an audience member walk away from her show unhappy.
"Yes, you madam! What is your name please?"
"Hannah" the girl replied politely but tersely.
"And is this your boyfriend?" Kayla decided to mock innocently vex Hannah further for dramatic effect.
"Him? Not after tonight!" Hannah replied sharply. The audience made a collective "Oooooh!" sound. Kayla inwardly congratulated herself for creating such a tense moment.
"Ok, well do you have anything you'd like me to turn James and Lucy into?"
"Yes, I'd like you to turn her into a slimy little frog" Hannah announced clearly and with conviction.
The audience made a similar sound to before, this girl's instant dislike of Lucy was obvious and added a whole new angle to the performance.
"With pleasure" Kayla replied "and what about James?"
"Oh" Hannah seemed momentarily thrown, as if she had forgotten there was anyone else on stage. Then a thought occured to her and her lips contorted into a wicked smile "turn him into something that eats frogs!"
"Ok, thanks Hannah" Kayla grinned as she dashed back onto the stage and positioned herself between Lucy and James "Right, you all heard the lady. One slimy little frog and one...something that eats frogs coming right up!"
