Preparing for the Future, while remembering the past

added by makutamon 4 years ago O

Clara was getting ready to meet the newest members of Animalia when she dropped her cubs off at Claw Coliseum's Daycare Center while Rick was going to meet with the new, veteran, members of Animalia. According to the most recent survey, the newest members were members of a whole generation that had followed popular media at the time and, for the most part, dropped out of school. But due to the way things were changing, especially involving technology, they were being literally left behind in terms of technology. But because the Animalia Virus could return youth to those who are exposed to big enough doses, many of this "hippie" generation were planning to become part of Animalia and complete the education they cut short just to be popular, and they found many things to be similar to hippie culture at the time.

While Clara was glad that Animalia was becoming larger, she wasn't too happy that these people were joining just to be popular. As one member of the PR-MD had put it 'Today's popular is tomorrow's unpopular.', as a way of describing the transitory nature of fads, where the word 'fad' meant 'something insignificant becomes popular'.

But what was considered the biggest case of political karma was where there were those who were against Animalia, but were also prejudiced against hippies in a similar way that there were certain politicians who were anti-gay who saw a chance in Animalia to "de-program" gays. While that was one headache Animalia was still dealing with, a new one was added with those politicians who were seeing Animalia as a way to "de-program" hippies. While there were those who were for Animalia, the politicians who were either anti-gay or anti-hippie weren't really considered actually for Animalia.

Eventually Clara made her way into the Great Hall that had all the newest members of Animalia for her speech. While she admired all of the tie-dye clothes there were some there that she didn't really care for, such as a tie-dye flag with a stylized marijuana leaf and the phrase/motto The Sixties Never Died

"I'm glad to have you all here before you begin conversion to be part of Animalia." Began Clara, allowing a round of applause to follow before she continued. "Some of you may have joined more willingly than others, with those some because of rapidly changing technology leaving them behind, while others were forced in by stupid politicians with prejudice against your way of life." At that there was booing, jeering, and various insults at the federal government that were more likely fake and not really meaning it.

"Not only will most of you become part of Animalia," after the jeering and insults finally stopped, "You would be able to be part of WSA and Pi Eta Tau to complete your educations. But before you would actually be part of those school, you will have to have remedial lessons to learn more about your new species." Then Clara paused for breath and allowed some of those present to complain about it. "This is considered important to learn about how your new bodies work." At that, there was some sniggering/giggling/etc. while Clara continued, "While some of you chose animals that don't have many special requirements, there are those who chose to be either an aquatic Animalian or an Avian Animalian. So the way you swim might not only be totally different as an Animalian than it was as a human, there will be those who have the ability to actually fly while others will be more accurately described as 'gliders'." After a few more complaints, Clara was able to continue.

"There might also be those who injured themselves using illegal drugs, and while we can guarantee that you will be restored to full health, we can't guarantee that you won't be receiving a black mark on your new records." At that there was even more booing and jeering directed toward the feds.

---

Richard had a similar speech, with one clear difference.

"While some of you might be considered part of 'The Greatest Generation' and fought in WWII, with only a small handful of WWI veterans still alive, the rest of you are similar to me: veterans who were hurt/crippled in stupid wars launched by stupid politicians." At that there were various nods, etc. of confirmation of what Rick said.

Rick also said, "While we can regain full health/lost limbs from becoming Animalians, the mental effects from our 'bad wars' aren't completely cured, so it's a good idea to remain in mental therapy after being treated."

---

While the current presidency and politicians were a constant thorn in Animalia's side, there was plenty of signs that the current president would only last one term, due to recession signs being, reportedly, spotted.
