"You know," Sandra said, holding the little doll in her hands. "I think this suits you. You were always trying to make people happy. Everyone, all the time. And you were so nice to do whatever they asked you to do."
She stroked the toy's simple hair, feeling the little bumps of simulated waves beneath her finger tips. Alice tried to struggle and pull away, in her own stiff way, but the toy was far too weak to break out of the grip Sandra held her in.
It was then the human noticed the large key in Alice's back. "Now, I wonder what happens if I turn your key. Would you like that, Alice Doll?"
The dolly shook her head in a herky-jerky fashion, but Sandra laughed. "Too bad!" She flipped the red jacketed toy over and began to wind the key. Ziiiip. Ziiiippp. Ziiiiiiiiip. Three large turns of the key until she felt resistance inside the plastic doll. Alice had stopped moving entirely. No part of her, not even her little eyes still full of life, so much as twitched while Sandra held the key.
Then, she sat her new plaything on the desk, pushing the keyboard out of the way so her new doll had room. And she let go of Alice and her key, wondering what she would do.
