After the pair of celestial foxes had departed, Kellie was thinking of how to introduce the royal pair to their child's guardians to negotiate visitation rights, when she realized something.
"Mika... you said 'our traditions' when you told me I should bow in respect to Kari's parents."
"Well, I am Japanese and-"
"And that 'we'd rather not start a fight...'"
"Oh... oops," Mika said uncomfortably. She saw Kellie glaring at her. "Kellie... do you promise to listen to reason? Not to pass judgement on what someone is? And to stop treating us like we're all like Yomi without getting to know us first?"
"... I promise."
"Do you swear? On your magic? You won't just shot and ask questions later like we're scared of the other Mika and Claudia doing?"
"... I swear, but in exchange, the truth. Now." Kellie said sternly.
Mika sank into the couch hanging her her head. Then, in a flash of green flames was a four legged green fox, a little flame dancing on the tip of her tail as she waved it back and forth, back and forth.
"This is my real form Kellie, it has been for a long time now... Yomi kidnapped Jack and the others, turning them into her kitsune by force, and our entire family disowned her... did you think we'd accept an entire park full of people from another universe who would've been given to us under the same spirit of Yomi claimed her victims? ... It was an insult... But I was there... so to stop a war, I negotiated with the only thing I had to bargain with."
"... Yourself." Kellie whispered.
"A kitsune with my magical potential? With the CONNECTIONS I have with all of you? I was too tempting a prize to pass up... My parents knew I'd bring great honor to our family. But I did have conditions. First, I'd never be asked or made to act against or through inaction allow any of you to come to harm. Second, once I'd reached the age I was at when I offered my agreement, I'd be given back my memories of my past life as a human, allowed to return to when I left."
"... what... what you're describing is time travel magic!"
"It didn't actually change anything that hadn't already happened, so it was safe to use... I'll admit, remembering on my eighteenth birthday that I had a love of my life waiting for me," Mika brought a paw to her chest. "And that I'd saved countless mortals from being forcibly changed, and thus saved my clan from a horrid dishonor... it was a surprise... But there was no way I could just not come back to all of you. My kitsune brothers and sisters knew I couldn't dishonor those bonds. Before I agreed, I had faith that my love for her would be strong enough that it would survive even eighteen years of a new life. And I was right."
"So... " Kellie whispered. "You offered to become a kitsune, and be a member of their family... to save all those people in that timeline Lilith harvested them from?"
"It was the only honorable thing to do," the green furred kitsune said with a stern calm face. She then shifted to her humanoid form and sat up, and hugged Kellie... Kellie didn't flinch, she just hugged her back.
