When an application suddenly installed itself on your phone, one could think that it is a malware. It is one's best interest to uninstall the app as soon as possible. But not for Matt. The app said it was a wish-granting app. These past few days rocked him down with debt and a mountain of scholastic problems. What's more, is that his student debt racked up to fifty grand with his latest check. He doesn't know where he could get that amount of money to pay off that debt. His well-off parents disowned him for being bisexual and he just got fired after arguing with a rude customer.
The wish-granting app. The name rings with hope. Matt knew it's fake but he thought that his life couldn't get worse if he tried opening the app.
The app was simple. An ample text box with a button that says 'wish' on the bottom. His phone isn't displaying Chinese ads yet. So far so good.
As for Matt's first wish, he decided something simple. When he was going back to his dorm, he saw a donut place selling cheap honey-glazed donuts. He wanted them but with a dollar and fifty cents in his pocket, he decided against buying it.
Matt typed his wish and pressed the button. For a moment nothing happened. It was too good to be true, Matt thought. Magic isn't real and neither are wish-granting apps. But a moment later and a sound of rushing wind and then there's a neat plate in his coffee table with a donut on top of it. It's light brown and a thin even glaze of honey on top.
Matt could not believe what he's just seen. One moment there's nothing and then there's the donut. He needs to see it one more time to see if he isn't dreaming or hallucinating the whole thing.
A rush of wind and there's another donut. Neatly stacked in the first donut and covered with honey. Matt reached into one and bit. It's sweet, smooth and appeased the slight grumble of his stomach. One bite turned into two and then three until he finished one. He reached for the other and gobbled it like the first one.
This wasn't a dream nor a hallucination. Fate has bestowed Matt with a device that could change his life forever. And with it, he uttered his first real wish.
