Terry opened the door, sighing as he now glanced around Jessie’s apartment. While the group was now thinking like their adult selves once again, they still had the problem of being physically 12. This became abundantly clear as Jessie now stepped off a step stool after retrieving something to eat from the top cabinet.
“Ugh this is annoying,” she grumbled. “Look at us. None of us are even tall enough to reach to the high spots around my place. How long are we going to be stuck like this?”
Sarah blushed as she now looked over her friends. “Well,” she said sheepishly. “There’s good news and bad news. Good news, the guy that owns the Magic Shop is sending something here that will allow us to get older.”
“So what’s the bad news,” Terry asked, feeling the butterflies from before stirring once more.
“The bad news,” Sarah said quietly. “Is that it will take three to five business days to arrive here.”
“Three to five days,” Duke groaned. “That’s way to long. I don’t want to be stuck like this all week.”
“The place is in another state Duke,” Sarah retorted. “And well none of us are even old enough to freaking drive. So unless you want to start walking it’s the best we can do.” Duke hung his head, groaning in frustration as he now turned towards a grumpy looking Jessie. “Umm you mind if we crash here?”
“Might as well,” Jessie grunted in frustration. “Not like any of us can actually go home looking like this. Besides, gonna need Muscles over here to reach the high shelves. He’s the only one that’s tall enough to reach the selfs without a step stool.” Terry nodded, shrugging his shoulders as he gazed first at his friends before looking at the high shelves. Yeah he was the tallest of the group but he would need to stand on tip toes and stretch to reach it.
Trying to make excuses as to why the four of them wouldn’t be around was easier said than done. Duke had the easiest time, he lived alone and worked for himself. Disappearing for a week wouldn’t be too much of a problem. Sarah and Jessie were forced to call the salon, making an excuse as to why they wouldn’t be in all week. Terry and Duke both tried to stifle laughs as the girls tried to make their voices sound more adult as they talked with their boss. “You guys are assholes,” Jessie grumbled as she hung up her phone. Duke could only shrug, giving his girlfriend a goofy smile as he tried to apologize.
Terry though had a harder time trying to cover for his absence. The only one with a family Terry had to craft a carefully contrived story about a conference for work that would keep him out of town. While Terry’s wife seemed to not care in the slightest, his children though texted him numerous questions. Terry now rubbed the back of his neck as he put down his phone. “Everything alright Terry,” Sarah asked.
“Yeah it’s just the kids,” he sighed. “The two of them keep texting me about what’s going on and why I can’t talk. They keep asking way too many questions and I’m running out of excuses. Hopefully what I texted them satisfies their curiosity.” Sarah giggled as she now looked at Terry, causing the burly 12 year old to frown. “What’s so funny?”
“Just hard looking at you like this and thinking you have a family with kids,” Sarah chuckled. “I mean seriously, they’re older than you are right now. Not to mention your wife.”
“Well at least the kids care,” Terry sighed. “Pretty sure my wife could careless. Hell if anything she probably end up bringing her lover to the house.” Terry now gazed at the 12 year old Sarah, despite the two of them being reduced to children he couldn’t help but still find her attractive. “You know,” he said. “This is gonna sound crazy but this might be the best thing to ever happen to me.”
“Seriously,” Sarah said flatly, raising an eyebrow. “We’ve been transformed into kids. Worse we’re at the most awkward part of childhood. That whole in between phase where your not quite grown but not a kid anymore. If this is the greatest thing to happen to you then you really need to get out more.”
“Oh ha ha,” Terry smirked. “But I’m serious. I mean yeah I’m shorter, not as strong, and I’m pretty sure I have a zit forming on my chin but I’m serious. If this hadn’t happened then we wouldn’t of had the chance to really get to know eachother. Besides, your really cute.”
“Cute huh,” Sarah grinned. “Yeah you must of hit your head or something. I mean look at me. Skinny as a rail, a body as straight as an arrow and a pair of boobs that would have trouble filling up an A cup.”
“Your still cute to me,” Terry said quietly, causing Sarah to blush. “I just wish, Well...I wish that you and me could be together. Like that we could grow up together or something. Maybe even date and be a couple.”
Sarah gave the boy a sweet smile as she now leaned over, placing a gentle kiss on Terry’s cheek. “That’s very sweet Terry,” she said. “And I would love to do that too. But we’re old Terry. You have a family, a wife. Even if you divorce you know it just won’t be the same as that first love. Nothing ever is.”
“Unless you have magic,” Terry said hopefully, drawing a bemused look from Sarah. “I mean who would of believed we could of ended up as two awkward 12 year olds. Whose to say when this thing arrives to change us back we can’t just choose a different age. Get a second chance, what do you say?”
Sarah smirked as she thought of Terry’s idea. Growing up with Terry, perhaps the two becoming a young and happy couple with a second chance at life. Sarah couldn’t help but rub her chin thoughtfully, Muscles certainly had an interesting idea. Perhaps over the next few days the two could talk about what a possible future with Terry could look like.
