I quickly realized that I had been knocked unconscious, when I groaned and lifted my head. Not only was I blurry eyed, but after a few moments I was able to find a clock on one of the walls that stated thirty minutes had passed. The fact that I was able to see the clock on the wall without glasses made me quickly look down at my hands, but instead of the small hands I had grown up with, I found Ted’s hands. The machine had not worked on me and Ted, and after looking at it, I realized that it was in worse shape then before George tried to fix it.
Getting up, I walked over to the two boys laying on the floor. Gently patting each to awaken them, “Guys, come on. Wake up. The machine didn’t work, and I think that it is even more broken than before.”
With a groan, my body finally replied, “Would you stop smacking me already, I get enough of that at school.”
Hearing those words, it became clear that the machine had worked, but instead of returning me to my body and Ted to his body, the machine had swapped George and Ted. Therefore, George was now in my body while Ted was in George’s body.
Seeing Ted open the eyes of George’s body, he moaned and demanded, “Why am I not back in my body?”
Looking at the machine, I replied, “I think whatever George did to fix it caused something to go haywire.” Looking over at George, who had been looking at his new hands, “George.”
“Yeah.”
“Do you think you can fix it again?” I asked nodding at the machine.
Finally seeming to notice the problem we three were facing, George got up and walked over to the machine. After about five minutes of examination, “Damn.”
“What? What’s the problem?” Ted asked, filling my old voice with dread.
“There are so many things wrong now, that I know it will take at least a week of working on it to repair all of the damage. Plus, we are going to have to get new parts, and that might make everything take even longer.”
