Everyone wishes they had magic right? “It’ll be so fun to use” they say, but that’s not the case.
Hi, my name is Jon, and I know magic. Practically my whole family does. It all traces back to one woman, who protected herself against all those Salem witch hunts.
Back then, people used to love her for the medical treatments she performed. She used magic to heal the sick and injured, and everyone loved her. A few outsiders came by and started interrogating people for the witch. No one spoke out, so they threatened everyone by burning a few homes down.
The witch didn’t want the town to suffer, so she used her magic to bring life into an identical life sized doll, and ran. The town’s perspective of this was that the witch sacrificed herself to be burned, just so nobody else gets burned.
A few years later, and the witch has kids, and they even had magic capabilities. The witch didn’t want to deal with the same situation again, so she put a curse on her own family. The curse is really complicated, but it basically states “any magic performed for outsiders will be forgotten the second they see it, and will think the magic is fake” meaning we can’t show off to people not in the family. This is good, unless you actually perform magic in public like my uncle Jerry. He performed a flight spell, but everyone thought he was hanging by string above him.
With my parents, two older brothers, and my 16 year old self, how good can having magic be?
