For several seconds nothing happened. The whole scene paused on a knife-edge of tension, Kyle threatening to overload on aggression and Diana steadfastly refusing to back down. After several moments of intense eye contact Kyle finally looked away first. He glanced down and began to exhale slowly and deliberately, bleeding out the tension through his calming breath. As he exhaled the girls could tell he was letting go of his furious rage, they watched as he sagged back down slowly until he again reached his more customary stoop.
"Look," he said eventually, "this is pointless. I might be able to punch out a few of you, but if you all got it together you could probably curse me before I could stop you. The question is, why?"
Liz was taken aback. "Whaddaya mean why? You started it. You're the one who just clocked our friend. Why in the hell should we stop just cause you ask us to?" she said accusingly.
Kyle sighed, and shook his hands loose from their fists before he replied. "Look, you're the ones who started it. Remember my pantsing last week?" He shrugged "I just... overreacted."
Jill strode forcefully towards him and gestured angrily at herself and at Jennifer. "You call this 'overreacting'! You're fucking nuts! Couldn't you have just sulked like you were supposed to?"
Kyle flashed a smile. "Sorry, sulking's not my style. I prefer getting even." Jill's withering glare soon caused his smile to fade, and he continued quickly, "Look, I only cursed her. She's the one who decided to share it with you. And come on, it's pretty obvious you all enjoyed yourself."
"Yeah well, thats not the point. You didn't mean for us to have fun." Jill came back pointedly.
"But you did, so what's the harm? I was going to change her back. Probably."
"Don't get cocky, you little twerp." Jill growled.
Kyle ignored her, and began walking back to his doorway. "Look, lets just say we've all had our fun but it's time to move on. You got me, I got you back. Sorry I had to hit Jennifer, but I wanted to make sure she didn't..." he flashed his irritating grin at the girls one more time,"...overreact.
"So what, thats just it?" asked Diana in disbelief. "We just all walk away?"
Kyle moved back inside the door. "I don't see why not. You can do whatever you want with the curse now, just leave me out of it. By the way, Jennifer should wake up in a few more minutes. She'll be a bit groggy, but more or less fine. Be sure and explain all this to her will you?"
He made to close the door, but Daisy interrupted him. "Wait, how did you do that anyway? I mean, you sure weren't that well-built last week."
Kyle gave one more brief chuckle. "You mean to tell me that this whole time, you never thought of saying the curse to YOURSELF? Oh man, that's just too rich."
With a final laugh he shut the door, leaving the girls standing puzzled and confused outside.
