Jared found himself growing increasingly resentful of Joe, who was literally leading him around on a leash.
Joe had it lucky from the sheepdog's perspective. He stood on two legs and could pee without raising one of them. He had thumbs! Jared had never realized the importance of an opposable thumb. Dog paws were worthless for opening doors or holding a pen.
Joe looked confident, too, and masculine unlike the shaggy sheepdog. Jared could even "smell" confidence and authority on Joe's person. Of course, Joe also held the leash and that made all the difference.
Plus he could talk. Jared whimpered fir attention again, but was only treated like a fussy animal.
"What's the matter boy?"
Jared snarled, unhappy at being called "boy" by Shaggy's dogwalker. What sort of job was that?
Sadly, for that matter, what did it say about his status that he needed a person to walk him?
