Moon Lake: Jenkins; After school discussion

added by A Moon Lake Fan 3 years ago O

"Okay, everyone, that was a good practice," Virginia called out at the end of the practice session. "I can tell we're still a bit rusty from the lack of practice, but if we work at it, we should be ready for Spokane High next Friday." She started to pass a rather large packet of papers as she continued to speak. "This'll give you a good idea of what to prepare for. I know we're a bit behind, but I'm sure we can catch up."

Virginia and Melissa heard the team groan as they heard Roy mumble, "Great...she heard we'd like homework, so she gave us more homework over more homework so we can do homework while doing homework."

"Hey," Trevor spoke up, "It's all for us to get ready. The past few weeks, what with the suspension of Ms. McCoy and the Halloween Dance, we've fallen a bit behind. I think this is a good opportunity for us to catch up."

Roy sighed and said, "Yeah, you're right. Sorry, Ms. McCoy."

"No, I get it," Virginia responded. "You all are under a bit of stress and the last thing I want to do is add more work to what you've got. I just want all of you to be as prepared as you can be."

"Thanks, Ms. McCoy," Megumi said, "And I'm sure we'll take a look at the material you prepared for us."

"Yeah," Jason added, "and we'll be in top shape for the competition coming up."

Virginia smiled as she heard that. "Okay, let's meet up this Friday and do more practice drills." With that said, the group got up and filed out of the room. Virginia turned to Melissa and asked, "Drive you home?"

"Sure," Melissa said as she helped Virginia gather her things. They then made their way to Virginia's car to get home.

On their way home, Virginia asked Melissa Jenkins a question. "So, what do you think?"

"Well," Mel started, "It looks like fun to be honest. And not just because Trevor is there." The two of them shared a smirk. "I never really got into that kind of stuff back in Michigan, probably because I was still new to high school and all."

"Understandable," Virginia responded, "What I could do is have you act as a substitute. You're a bit too late to be one of our regulars like the rest of the team. But having you as a substitute might be worth it as it'll allow you to see how things really go in a real competition. What do you think about that?"

"Well," Melissa started as she thought about her answer, "I think that's fine for now. As I said earlier, this isn't exactly my thing per se, but given that's there's not a whole lot of after-school activities going on right now, it might be something worth looking into. Although, I got this friend who just recently moved into Moon Lake. She'd love to do something like this."

"Oh?" Virginia asked with a crooked eyebrow. She recalled seeing a new boy in her class and wondered if that boy and Mel's friend are related to each other. "Perhaps, when you get the chance, invite her to see me and maybe I could arrange something." Just as she said that, the two of them arrived at the Jenkins house. "You don't mind if I join you to see if your father's home, do you?"

"Not at all," Melissa said with a smirk. "I mean you practically are family already." Virginia smiled as she parked the car and the two of them climbed out. Melissa opened the front door to see Harold at the kitchen table surrounded by paperwork. "Hi daddy," Melissa said as she approached Harold and gave him a hug. She then looked at the papers on the table and asked, "What's this?"

"Oh just some paperwork that I got from the courthouse," Harold replied, smiling at both Melissa and Virginia. "There's quite a bit here."

"I can imagine," Virginia said, "I take it's all about our wedding this weekend?"

"Yeah," Harold sighed, "And the sooner we get this done, the sooner we can snag a time on Saturday to get married."

"I suppose we should get working on that," Virginia said as she walked closer to Harold. She then whispered into his ear, "And maybe once we get done with this, we can have some...fun out in the woods tonight."

Melissa rolled her eyes as she knew where this was going. "I think I'm going to head upstairs. I've got some homework to do." As soon as she said that, she made her way upstairs.
