While Tad, Ryan, and Connor were discussing Connor's questions about Weres and sexuality and the two Werecat lovers were having the time of their lives, Tom Herald was currently driving back to Moon Lake. Once he had finished the interview with the Marshall in Spokane, Tom returned to his hotel room to pack his belongings and head back to Moon Lake. After checking out of his hotel room, Tom got on the road.
As he was driving, Tom found himself worrying about Alice and her family back in Moon Lake. Ever since Alice had called to tell him about the protest that Gustavus Amehr and Quintus Fives had organized in front of the Stevens household, Tom wished that he put everything else aside to be there for the love of his life. Unfortunately, Spokane was over 5 hours away from Moon Lake, and Tom had a job that he needed to do. The best that he could do for Alice was to give her words of encouragement over the phone.
“Damn those two,” Tom angrily growled to himself. “Why the hell would they bring Alice and her family into this?”
Tom partially understood why Fives and Amehr organized the protest. Some people didn’t think the world was ready for the changes that he wanted to bring about by revealing Weres to the world, and Fives and Amehr were two of those people. But at the same time, was it really necessary to organize a protest in front of his future in-law’s house and call his wife a slut?
Just then, Tom’s phone, which he had set on the center console, began to ring. He glanced down at his phone to see who was calling and immediately answered the phone and put it on speaker when he saw it was Alice.
“Alice, you and your family are okay, right?” Tom asked immediately. “Was anyone hurt?”
“It’s okay Tom,” Alice said calmly on the other end. “Everything is fine now.”
Tom sighed in relief. “Okay...that’s good. Sorry about that. I was just concerned, that’s all. I hadn’t heard from you after I called you from the hotel, and I was starting to get worried.”
“I appreciate your concern for me and my family,” Alice said.
“So what happened?”
“The police came and broke up the riot after my father called. Thankfully, there was no violence involved.”
“And did they…?”
“No, the police didn’t find the ringleaders. According to one of the members of the protest, they stepped away a minute or so before the police arrived.”
“Damn those two,” Tom muttered under his breath.
“Did you say something?”
“What? No...I didn’t say anything…”
“Alright...so where are you right now?”
“I’m on the way back to Moon Lake,” Tom said. “I should be home later tonight, maybe around 7-8.”
“Alright love,” Alice said. “If you’re not too exhausted when you get home, I would love to spend a little alone time together.”
“I’m never too exhausted for you, love,” Tom said, making Alice chuckle.
“Drive home safely, okay?” Alice said.
“I will,” Tom responded. “Love you.”
“Love you too,” Alice said before she hung up the phone.
