I ran to the shower and sobbed hysterically as I scrubbed my body clean. I reeked of brimstone. Fire. Smoke. It wouldn't come off. I couldn't get clean. I was forever marked. I stared at the ring in the shower and tried something, anything, to reverse what I had done. Eventually, the ring glowed hot red and scorched the flesh under it. I screamed, trying to wish it off, but that didn't work either. From the shower, dripping wet, I ran to the kitchen and grabbed the sharpest knife I could find.
I stared at the ring, I stared at my finger. I deftly slammed the knife down, screaming, and cut through my own finger. If the bond with the ring was broken, wouldn't that break what I had done?
As I sawed through my own bone desperately, screaming in agony, I saw my own finger eventually come free and fall to the kitchen floor in a pool of blood. I grabbed a cloth from the sink and wrapped my stumped ring finger, covered in blood, panting desperately.
I screamed and fell into a naked bloody fit on the floor. To my surprise, I looked up when I couldn't scream anymore and found the old lady staring down at me in horror.
"You know, when the ring is released, I have to come back and collect it." She shook her head. "Let me tell you, kid, you fucked up this universe, oh boy. With Satan released, your entire existance is going to fall into permenant darkness, and there's nothing that can right that balance, because the devil will wind up controlling everything."
I sobbed hysterically as the old lady picked up my finger and shook her head, taking back the ring and putting it in her purse.
"Can't say it's the fatest end I've ever seen." She laughed casually. "There was this one universe where this guy just nuked the whole thing. Killed everyone and everything in creation the second he put the ring on."
"Wait!" I cried, sobbing, bleeding. "Can't you help?"
"No, you idiot!" She laughed. "There's nothing to be done here. This is your fate now. It's going to be a hell of a ride, let me tell you."
She vanished, gone. I stared at my oozing finger stump and the ragged flesh. I sat back in shock before I went to my room to get dressed and go to the hospital.
