John didn’t feel like eating and he just really wanted to be alone, he ended up walking away from his sisters and toward one of the many break rooms. Some rooms had game systems, some had pool tables or just places to sit and talk. He found one which he believed was empty and simply walked in.
Turned out it wasn’t empty, a young woman of age with him was sitting at with her back to him reading a book by the sunlight coming in from a nearby window.
“Sorry, didn’t know someone was in here.” Apologized John as the woman turned around and he recognized her.
“Reina?”
“John?” inquired the red-haired green-eyed woman who had been in his class until her family moved across the state last year. She looked similar, an above average figure with freckles on her face, she wore a green top and tan short with a sandals on her feet. The only new addition being a dark green bandana she had wrapped around the top of her head and ears.
“My God…what are you doing here?” inquired John
“The same thing you are I am betting.” Inquired Reina “Becoming a god damn monster.”
“Yes…my whole family is in here.” Admitted John he closed the door and moved to sit across from her. “You as well.”
“Yes.” Confirmed Reina “The rest of my family didn’t get it, so they are lucky and mom is being really supportive…dad…not so much but it is hard on him. The whole Religion thing.”
“Preacher right?” inquired John
“Deacon but close enough.” Confirmed Reina, ever since the virus came it had hit the religious community hard. Not in terms of people becoming monsters, that seamed random but in how to deal with it. Some considered it a sign of the end times, others as punishment for sins and still others preached acceptance. “I am on day one, you?”
“Same.” Confirmed John
“So how is everyone back there?” inquired Reina wanted to talk about anything but there coming transformation. John and her spent the better part of an hour talking, laughing and joking.
“I bet Ashley found that so stupid.” Laughed Reina as John instantly stopped laughing at his funny story and became quiet. She noticed the change at once. “You two not together anymore?”
“No…she broke up with me after I came down with the virus.” Explained John
“No offense John but if she is that shallow then she doesn’t deserve you.” Said Reina as she bit her lip.
“Listen…I never said anything because you where with Ashley, but I really liked you.” Admitted Reina as John was taken aback, Reina had always been a friend a good friend and yes, she was pretty but he never really had that much interest in her. Maybe that was because he was with Ashley and that seamed a little like cheating on her to him to be thinking of other girls, but she had thrown him away like a piece of trash. He looked at Reina with new eyes, she was beautiful in the light, with her red hair, freckles and green eyes, she was a daughter of Ireland for sure.
“So maybe once we get out of here?” inquired John
“Or sooner, if you would like.” said Reina with a grin.
