"I did make such armors," answered a new voice "but they're only prototypes. No way I'll let anyone wear them out of my lab until I'm sure they're as 100% safe and reliable as our current ones!"
This voice, as deep and low as a female voice can be, belong to a female orc, which she insist is called an orcann, with two ‘N’. Her full name is Inaya Akila El Houari and have the particular quirk to only let family and very close friends use her first name, others must call her Akila instead. Being an orcann she is as tall as Flore, with big square shoulders and arms so strong they aren't as big as you legs, but your whole body. Her maghrebian ancestry fail to be hidden by her grayish-green skin or her underbite, which let the tusk like canines of her lower jaw poke out without hurting her.
At first glance, Inaya give the impression of a savage beast who bash skull first and think later, if at all. An impression only reinforced by her gigantic war-hammer, a thing so heavy the strongest humans need to be two to ever hope of lift it, but she is able to easily wave with one hand. And while she can be merciless in the heat of a battle, violence in never her first answer. In fact, one would be hard pressed to find a more kind and compassionate soul than Akila El Houari.
She's the only one of your team who revealed being a Valkyrie to her parents, two proud but well integrated Muslim. The only thing they are prouder is of their daughter integrating the forces of Allah himself, as Islamic believers call god.
There is one thing you need to know about orcs: They are, in fact, a special kind of goblin. Once in a while a family of goblins will give birth to an orc. Orcs are usually shunned by other goblins, who consider them as cursed at best, and a blight on their blood needing to disappear from their sight at worst. So most baby orcs are abandoned and either grow up alone without anyone caring for them, when their lucky enough to not ending up in the hands of evil beings turning them into brainless brutes full of hatred, only thinking of destroying everything. Obviously, the El Houari family is an exception.
Not only does Inaya have the love and support of her mother and father, but of her numerous aunts too. (Her father as a lot of sisters.)
Of course, your orcann friend is sporting the same armor as the rest of your team, with the same ‘ice-phoenix’ on her chest. The only difference being the gear-wheel painted above the flattened ‘V’ symbolizing her rank as a private, marking her as a war engineer.
That something else about Inaya, she's a genius. She may be the same age as everyone else in the team, she entered your school university when you entered high-school, and already has a master in mechanical engineering and is on her way to a doctorate. Honestly, you wonder how she can stand having you as her boss. She claim that between the joy of working with peoples who accept her for who she is, regardless of what, and the engineering opportunity being a Valkyrie offer to her, especially as your teammate, she can't imagine a better job.
… But it doesn't help your feeling of inadequateness.
Thankfully Ariane, the Harpy, have a question for Inaya, interrupting your dark thoughts. "Speaking of armor, did you find a way I could wear my rank without having to wear my shoulder-guards? I case you forgot I can't fly when I put them on."
"I'm still thinking on it, since you vetoed both a cape and a helm. Honestly, I might need to ask for help on that one."
