Well, it beats lying around and doing nothing. You raised your hand and agreed to join the hiker and the soldier. The hiker looked to be a little younger than you, perhaps just fresh out of high school, with a very lean build. He had a light olive completion with dark hair. He introduced himself as Jude. He was flying off for a holiday to America, was seemed slightly unsettled by the current events.
The soldier was an average size, late twenties, early thirties, but it was obvious she was incredibly fit, even with the baggy uniform. She was dark, with frizzy hair and a glass eye. You didn’t comment on it, and exchanged names. She was Skye, who was flying home having ended her service for the time.
Together, you began to march up a mountain. There seemed to be a landing about an hour or twos walk, so you get ready and leave. As you walk, you began to get a general feel of your companions. Jude seemed bright with a healthy dose of optimism. Skye seemed distant, but continued to put on a smile.
As they walked, you began to feel hot. You had been walking up for a while now, and already it seemed to be getting dark. You rose up onto the flat landing.
“Hey we did it,” Jude said.
“Yeah. We did,” Skye replied.
You let out a huff and sat yourself down by a small lake that tripled over the edge of the landing and into a vast river below. Jude followed, while Skye stood watch over the horizon.
It was a wide ocean, which glimmered as the suns steadily set.
“Well, lets start a fire,” she said.
Both the hiker and soldier seemed to have an idea of what to do, and quickly you were warming yourself by a fire.
