After watching for some time, you realize the movie play in Indian, when could have sworn you took care to select the english-dub voice-track, as bad as it is. Thankfully, you can see the subtitles are on, so hopefully the guests should be able to follow the story without too much difficulty.
Suddenly, a doubt surface in your mind. "I am not a guest myself?" You look at your host, and are surprised the Caucasian girl is wearing a saree of her own. "Wasn't she wearing something else? And since when are white people wearing traditional Indian dresses?!?" you wonder. "Nice saree you have. Is there a special occasion that made you wear Indian fashion?"
"Er… You helped me choose it last month, Ruhi. Are you feeling okay?"
This answer is perplexing you. "How could I have helped her choose it? I only came to this country a week ago!?!" But thinking that make you feel a slight headache, until you finally recall that Amber is your adoptive sister. How could you forget?
Long before both your birth and Amber's, a couple of American people came to India for their work, and would eventually become good friend with your parents. Chance made it so both them and your parents and their friend gave birth to a daughter each, and around the same time. Alas, when you were around two year old, a tragic accidents killed Amber's parents. At first she was only supposed to stay with you until her remaining family could be localized, but it turned out she hadn't any, so in memory of their lost friends, your parents adopted Amber, raising her like she was their own. She never had put a foot in her biological parents country before your father moved here, in America, for his own work.
Of course, your adoptive sister know the truth. But in mind and soul, she's no less your sibling, and is just as much a faithful Hindu as the rest of your shared family. "Sorry sis, I didn't remember," you respond in Hindi, "plus I must admit, I thought you would try to adopt the fashion and culture, now that you're home."
"Home?!?" Answer a surprised Amber, in flawless Hindu. "Ruhi, until a week ago I've always lived in India, bathed in Indian culture! I… I may be curious about by bio-parents' culture and way of life, but… The truth is, beside my D.N.A., everything about me is Indian. Hearing you suggest it might be otherwise… It hurt, Ruhi! Profoundly!"
Switching back to your heavily accented English, you sadly say to your sister "Sorry Ambee, I didn't realize how insensitive I was. I… I know we were supposed to host this slumber party together but I… I think I'm not good compagnie for you to have right now. If you need me I'll be in my own room."
On your way to the corridor, you fail to notice how Amber's complexion and hairs are changing, your sister on her way to become your identical twin, nor your memories shifting along the way.
