"Scared off...by you?" Jude says half-heartedly, intimating what you both don't want to admit: Skye, a full-on soldier with training, got yanked off her feet by it, but it got scared of a bookish college student? That is, if it actually was the same creature...
"Should we go look for Skye?" you say, trying to change the subject.
"Look, I don't want to abandon her, but honestly, I don't want to go back into those woods again," Jude responds determinedly, echoing your own sentiments. You both stare at the woods dejectedly.
"So...how about we head back to the plane? At least we can let everyone know not to head in this direction without some kind of weapons," you finally break the silence.
"Yeah, that's probably the best thing to do," Jude agrees, and the two of you gather what items still remain in the clearing and head down the mountain path, each step a reminder that while three of you went up, only two return. You feel pretty miserable, but you are not sure if it's from losing a companion, being chased and attacked, or something else. Jude looks off his game as well, but neither of you mention it to the other, realizing there's nothing you can do about it for the moment.
Finally, you reach the bottom of the mountain and see the glimmer of the metal plane in the distance. Maybe the other passengers have had better luck than you all.
