Damon wasn't lying when he said Scarlett was beautiful. She wore a long scarlet and gold dress held up by spaghetti straps, with her long blonde-haired head crowned in a tiara. Even her hands were covered in white gloves that reached up her upper arms.
Compared to Scarlett's conservative attire, Damon was much less restricted by clothing. Other than his blue fish tail, he was completely naked. This wasn't a problem to Scarlett or her family, however.
From what she read of merfolk - Mermaids tend to cover up their breasts in seashells, starfish, or even their hair for modesty's sake. Mermen don't have anything to hide and proudly display their chests to attract potential mates.
While Scarlett once found it odd that a mermaid had to cover up but not a merman, she eventually accepted it and took as just a piece of mythological culture that contrasted with her human culture. "After all", she thought, "Who am I, as a human, to judge merfolk by the standards of my species?"
Just another aspect of merpeople that fascinated Scarlett's mind while in her studies.
While it's one thing to read about merpeople, it's another thing for Scarlett to see a merman in real life and for him to compliment her on her looks.
Her cheeks were still red from blushing. "Thank you, Damon. It really means a lot to hear that from a merman like you - I just have so many questions for you, and your species. I've been reading about merfolk for years, I can't seem to think straight right now..." Scarlett spoke fast.
Damon was fascinated by the way Scarlett babbled on about his mermanhood. He found it adorable and chuckled. "It's fine, Scarlett, really. Judt take your time, Princess." He said with a wink.
After a while, Scarlett took a deep breath as she started to calm herself down. She smiled more confidently as she narrowed down her thoughts into a single question. "What's it like being a merman? You know, with the lack of legs and all."
"It's really liberating. Feels so good to flick my tail and explore the ocean instead on walking on land with legs and... Oh." Damon paused he realized that he gave out the fact that he wasn't always a merman.
Scarlett's eyes lit up. "Legs? Human legs?! You mean, you can transform into a human disguise when your tail is dry or something?"
Damon sighed, knowing he's probably going to open up a can of worms. "No, not really. You see, I wasn't always a merman. In fact, I used to be a human prince not too long ago."
Scarlett sighed in awe. "A human prince... Turned into a merman..." She said in wonder. "How did it happen, and why?"
Damon shrugged his shoulders. "I was just tired of being a prince. So I decided to drink a potion and I turned into this." Damon said as he raised and flicked his fin from the water.
"Interesting..." Scarlett said with fascination in her voice. "What was the name of your kingdom? Surely, your family and my parents could've arranged it so I would visit you, and probably made your life as a prince more bearable."
Damon answered her initial question. "My kingdom's name is The Sapphirus Kingdom."
