"We are close to the park," Rex pointed out in his reasonable impression of a calm, deliberate human being. "Might I suggest we all convene at one of the picnic tables and study the situation and examine all possible angles?"
Kevin, by virtue of being the other human, agreed with Rex. "That sounds like a good idea."
Both Jared and Frank whimpered, both eager to advance their agendas of landing back in their proper human forms instead of on all fours as an Old English sheepdog and Rottweiler, respectively.
"I really don't think we should just rush into anything," Kevin found himself explaining to his brother.
"The boy is correct, master," Rex explained helpfully, if in a slightly patronizing way, to Frank.
Once they arrived at the busy park, they avoided groups of people and found an isolated picnic table. Kevin and Rex took a seat on the benches as the two dogs, formerly a brother and an owner, curled near their feet and listened with finely tuned canine ears.
"Now that we have the collar back, I am sure we're much closer to getting you both back in your bodies," Kevin said.
"That seems reasonable," Rex said. "And I am ready to return my Master's body at his command..."
"That's great," Kevin said.
Jared whimpered and raised his shaggy head. Kevin instinctively realized the source of distress. "Unfortunately, I'm not so sure that the dog that now has my brother's body is entirely willing to swap back."
Rex pondered the disloyalty and found it difficult to fathom. "That's seems extremely unhelpful."
Jared barked in total agreement.
Frank barked to the sheepdog. "Look... help me and Rex reverse this switch, and I will make sure that your former dog submits and does the right thing," he reassured Kevin, Rex and, most of all, Jared.
Jared whined, worried that once the Rottweiler and then human Rex had what they wanted, they might see no reason to help him.
"It does seem the best option," Jared's kid brother encouraged him.
Jared huffed but nodded his shaggy head.
Rex reached down and unfastened the collar from Frank's muscular neck. "Master, how do you think we should proceed?" Rex asked. "It seems obvious we should both have contact with the collar while concentrating fervently on getting back into our own bodies."
Frank barked his agreement and wagged his tail with anticipation.
"Well, as you might say, master, here goes nothing..."
