"Mom and Dad when did this happen," Katie asked, still dumbfounded that her mother was pregnant.
"Right around Halloween," Kellie sighed. "We..um were at a party. We started drinking, then one thing led to another and..." Kellie trailed off motioning to her pregnant stomach.
Katir furrowed her brow, that didnt make any sense. How could her mother be this pregnant? "Okay," she breathed. "Two things. One, how are you this pregnant? And two are you two a couple now?"
Kellie and Jack frowned crinkling their noses at the idea of being a couple. As they were about to answer they turned to their daughter. Katie had a mixture of disgust and hope on her face as she gazed at her teenage parents.
"Its complicated," Kack stated.
"Complicated," Katie whispered. Katie's face began to flush with anger. "Complicated! What the fuck Mom and Dad, you get drunk at a party, get pregnant, and you wont or cant grow up and just...BE TOGETHER!"
Kellie said nothing, she knew she had screwed up. Looking at her daughter she could see the hurt, the pain, the complete disdain she had in discovering her parents weren't back together but still a couple.
"Katie you have the right to be angry," she said calmly.
"Oh no shit Mom," Katie spat. Sighing she now began texting people, much to Kellies confusion. "What are you doing," Kellie asked.
"Texting Gloria and your sisters," Katie said angrily. "I am not dealing with this alone."
"I dont think that's such a great idea," Jack said sheepishly.
"I didnt ask for your opinion Dad," Katie said angrily. "I need my family here now!"
Kelli and Jack both winced at that remark, understanding its intention. Right now Katie viewed Jack and Kellie as a nuisance, not as her parents.
"Katie please," Kellie said softly, a sadness now overtaking her face. "Can we talk? Just you and me? Please?"
Katie paused, looking angrily at her parents before sighing and nodding sadly. "Jack," Kellie said softly. "Can me and Katie talk. Mother to daughter?" Jack looked between the two, he wanted to stay but understood this was something Kellie needed to do on her own. "I'll be outside if you need me," he said. Kellie smiled, thanking him as Jack now left the room.
As mother and daughter now stood in silence searching for words it was Kellie who now spoke. "I hate fighting with you ya know," Kellie said softly. "The last time we fought, it damn near destroyed the world."
"And whose fault was that Kellie," Katie said bitterly. "You were the one that unbirthed me and Lisa."
"Your right it was mine," Kellie sighed sadly. "That's why I dont want to fight. I want to apologize. This, has to be difficult for you."
"Oh really no shit mom," Katie said half laughing, half crying. "I mean it's not everyday a girl finds out her rejuvenated teenage parents are pregnant after getting drunk at a high school party. Seriously what the fuck mom? And you two are still not together?"
"No," Kellie said softly. "Your father and me, we both realize we're better as friends than a couple. We're both too stubborn."
"And stupid," Katie muttered. "I mean seriously? A pregnant teen! I'm sure Merlin was pissed."
"You have no idea," Kellie grumbled. "Still in the doghouse."
"Well not sure what you expecting there mom a parade?"
Katie and Kellie remained quiet for a moment before beginning to laugh softly. "Katie I'm sorry about this," she said. "I hate hurting you. I want us to be on good terms. I wish I could give you something more normal, something that wasnt so complicated."
"Never been good with normal mom," Katie grinned. "And it's fine. Yeah I'm upset but I'll be okay. Besides, Ann and Lisa are the ones that are going to kill you."
"Lucky me," Kellie smirked. "Which reminds me, where are they?"
"Lisa is home " Katie said. "And I'm pretty sure Ann is with Jackie and her friends this weekend. As for Gloria, I think she ended up sleeping over a friends house after helping Ms. Haskins with a date."
Kellie nodded and sighed, she was about to have a very awkward family meeting but as long as Katie was okay, she would get through it.
