One day, after they have collaborated enough research, Mitch puts down and book and says, "I think it's about time we try some of these spells we've been reading.
"FINALLY!" says Alan with a smile "I thought we were NEVER going to get to them!"
"This should be fun." says Dale. "You know, I've read that there's a way to make the spells temporary so all three of us could transform at once."
"How great!" says Alan "We'll be packmates instead of roommates!"
Both Dale and Mitch roll their eyes as the former hands his book over to the latter. Mitch sees it marked on a chapter called "Timed Transformations", breaking a smile after a few minutes of reading. "This will be so cool! Look! here's a version to have our clothes meld into the new body, and here's a way to keep our human intelligence and speech."
Alan snorts "What fun'll THAT be? I wanna be a full dog, not some Disney stand in."
Dale and Mitch look at each other, then at Alan. "Fine." says Dale. You can become a full animal - but if you mess up the place you have to clean up after."
Alan gives him a wry smile "Fine, fine. How long'll the effects last?" asks Alan.
"As long as we want - I think an hour is probably best for the first time." says Dale.
"ONLY an hour?!" says Alan.
"Better safe than sorry." says Dale.
"All right." says Alan glumly.
Mitch moves on and starts preparing the spell by making room for three spell circles for him his roommates to stand in, giving Dale and Alan written copies of the instructions. The three also needed to a cookie containing a hair sample of what they want to become, Alan wanting to a black-furred wolf, Dale an Old English Sheepdog, and Mitch a Golden Retriever. But, due to shoddiness, the hair samples got mixed together and were divided eventually.
"Here's how it works. I'll transform Alan, he transforms Dale, and you transform me. We'll recite the spell at the same time." The three begin reciting in unison as the magic circles begin to glow, Alan starting to feel the change as thick fur started to sprout on his body, Mitch looking over to Dale as they also also begin changing with their faces becoming wolf-like. Within moments, the three all became large wolfdogs in their apartment. The three are all gold and black with curly fur, looking like triplets from the same litter.
"Wow...," Alan said while shaking his head a bit. "That was intense."
"Tell me about it," Mitch responded as Dale looked at himself and his friends. Dale sees Alan playing around with his canine tongue. "Least Alan is getting a kick out of this."
"Gotta take advantage of this with a human mind," Alan responds, enjoying this at another level since it allows him to embrace his Native American heritage.
