If you told younger me that I’d be given the chance to train my power to be a hero, I’d believe you’re lying. It was very hard to believe, even for myself.
I walked into what looked like an office building on the outside and sat in the waiting room. There were other people there too. One by one, they were called to the next room. When my name was called, I was being led around the building by someone in a hero outfit.
“So it says here that you’re ability is Rewind. Are you able to demonstrate it to me?”
“Could you hand me something I can break?”
He gave me a wooden pencil. I snapped it in half and threw one half down the hall. “You may wanna step behind me!” I suggested to him. I activated my ability, and the pencil was slowly shaping back together. The piece I threw down the hall flew back onto the pencil, making it fully repaired.
“Alright, that can be useful for fixing things. Can it work on people?”
“Yea. If the object has a time, I can change it.”
“That will be very useful if we have injured people”
We reached the end of the hall, and he pointed to a door. “That is her office. Take this paper and give it to her,” he handed me the paper he was holding, “just a little tip: don’t make her angry!” He started walking away, leaving me alone in front of my possible future.
I opened the door and was introduced by the strongest woman I’ve seen. Even her muscles have muscles. She was looking down at a paper, and looked up when I opened the door.
“Hello, my name is Giga-Gal!” She held her hand out, I grabbed it and shook it.
“Wow, that’s an ok shake. Not very firm.”
“Sorry, I was kinda afraid you’d crush it”
“That’s alright, it’s normal for people to think that of me. So, you want to join my agency?”
I gave her the paper, “I was told this agency is for those who have trouble with their powers. I’m here to learn how to fully control them, so I can be a hero!”
She looked at my paper, “So, was being a hero you’re childhood dream?”
“It was until I got my ability. After 10 years of being sad, I’ve decided to finally try for once.”
“It says here that you are good with changing time on anything but yourself, please explain!”
“As you can see, my power is Rewind. I can change the time back or forward for an object. This ability requires me to touch the object, but it’s different if it’s myself.”
“Are you able to at least change yourself back?”
“Yea, if I’m calm enough. Most of the time when I change ages I tend to panic in public.”
“Well at least your panic state doesn’t affect those around you. So what triggers these accidental self power uses?”
“Sneezing, being frightened, sudden pain, sometimes it’s my dreams. It’s a decent amount of things to be real with you.”
“Well, you’ve made a good choice of choosing my agency. We will call you when we’ve decided on who to choose. If you don’t mind, could you demonstrate your power for me?”
I grabbed an apple from her desk and started rewinding it to a seed. She looked amazed, but slightly angry that her apple is gone, so I started changing it back. As I did that, I could feel my nose starting to feel different. It was a familiar feeling, one that caused me anxiety. I quickly changed the apple back and attempted to stop the sneeze, but it was too late.
The once quiet room was filled with “achoo” and an “oh no” from Giga-Gal. She watched as I became a young child before her eyes. As I was changing, I kept trying to stop the rewind on my body, just to avoid being too young.
When it stopped, I stood there with oversized clothes. I looked at Giga, and she gasped, “I’m sorry, but you are the cutest thing I’ve seen.”
I looked at myself and how young I’ve became. It wasn’t too obvious, but I could guess how old I was based on height and my size.
