Jeff hesitated because he was not sure how Dominic and Myles would take to sharing a body. Unlike his brothers who were always together, before they were forced to share a body, he knew that the wrestler and football jock were not the best of friends. They hung out with the same group of friends, but they never seemed to be good friends with each other. "But, they could be." Jeff said to himself. Based on his one observation, he guessed that the Chronovac program was able rewrite history to fit a modification, including changing everyone's perceptions. And if that was the case, Dominic and Myles would have no choice but to be good friends in the new history.
But at the same time, he was also unsure how history could be rewritten so that Dominic and Myles were sharing a body. Their profile still displayed them with separate last names and different ages. Jeff double checked the species subsection, and unlike with his brothers, the two were not noted as being twins. Jeff wondered for a moment if an additional, unlockable feature allowed him to re-write someone or someones background as he saw fit. For now, he would have to trust that the program could come up with how they were sharing a body. Jeff clicked the Save button. He waited by his desktop, listening for anything out of the ordinary from the rowdy group in the basement. Nothing. There was no unusual screaming from two, unrelated people being suddenly joined together; it was only the typical cheers and complaints as the game went on.
Jeff smiled, glad that no one seemed to have been aware of the modification he made. He pushed himself away from the desk and walked to the basement to look upon the group again. As he approached, he immediately noticed both sets of two-headed teens, his brothers and the newly joined, would-be best friends. Dominic and Myles were standing in the back of the group, both focused on the near finished game. They were wearing sweat bottoms with a tank top. Unlike his brothers who were nearly identical in appearance, the other pair were clearly different. Myles's pale white skin, their left half, appeared to suddenly blend into Dominic's copper-brown skin, their right half, along the middle of their shoulders, between their individual heads.
Jeff's mind buzzed with questions. Were Dominic and Myles on the wrestling team and football team like his brothers? Did they still have two separate families? Were they somehow born sharing a body? The group suddenly cheered, jarring Jeff. He noticed Dominic and Myles going around high-fiving and fist-bumping their friends, clearly their team had won.
"You missed it!" Chris exclaimed when he noticed Jeff at the foot of the stairs. For a moment, it looked like his brother was going to walk over to him, but he must have thought better of it as his twin was in a conversation with one of their friends.
Jeff walked over and fist-bumped Chris's hand. "Yeah, I can't believe it." He sighed, trying his best to fake disappointment.
His brother seemed to believe his fib. "That's what happens when you disappear after the first half." Chris smiled.
Then the pair Jeff was most interested in walked up. "Thanks dudes for having us over." Dominic spoke to Josh and Chris. "We have to go though. Someone..." He looked annoyingly at Myles, "...left his backpack in the locker room."
"Our backpack." Myles corrected. "Your half responsible for it."
"I'm not the one who has an assignment due tomorrow." Dominic groaned.
"Whatever. See you guys later." Myles fist-bumped the twins as he and Dominic started walking up the stairs.
Jeff excused himself, saying that he needed to get a drink of water, as he followed the other two-headed teens out of the basement. He overheard them talking in hushed voices. Dominic complained, "I can't believe you waited to the last minute to work on your speech."
"Come off it. Its not like you have never forced me to stay up late to work on your shit." Myles argued.
Dominic seemed to ignore the retort and asked instead, "Whose house is it tonight again?"
"Tuesday today, right? Its yours, I think." Myles answered.
Jeff watched as the pair grabbed their jacket from the coat rack by the door. Myles flicked the jacket behind them so Dominic could catch the right sleeve, and together, they raised their arms to slide the jacket on. As they left, Jeff marveled at the smooth, coordinated sequence. He had no doubt in his mind that they were excellent athletes still. Jeff raced back to his room, eager to use the program more.
