Suddenly Christine and I could hear on Rustys cellphone the
sound of a thud followed by the sound of a body falling to the
ground as well as the sound of that cellphone being dropped/
Obviously someone had just whacked Rusty on the noggin
and as I heard the familiar voices of his attackers I knew
by whom.
So I shouted on my phone till someone on the other
side picked up Rusty's phone and answered me with the smooth
cultured voice of the dragaman gangster I knew as "Faustus "
"Hello Marcia" came the Germanic sounding voice of the right
hand dragaman of Crime DragaFather Archimedes.
"Hello Faustus " I said as I frantically motioned at my client
Christine not to run away
"You know Rusty's stepbrother would be most unhappy if
something were to happen to family"
"Perish the thought" said Faustus,"I still remember the
DragaFather burning my scales with his pipe the last time one
of the Boys hurt his stepbrother Rusty"
"They might be on opposite sides of the Law but Archimedes
looks after Family,even Rusty."
"So what does Archimedes want this time ?" I asked the brainy
dragaman
"The DragaFather didn't tell me "said Faustus
"My orders were to bring him Fairy-Girl and anyone who knew
too much" said the scaly brainy gangster
"I take it I'll need to go to Archimedes lair in order to get Rusty ?"
"You know the place,take the old elevator beside the abandoned
Bootlegge Hotel"confirmed Faustus " We'll talk there"
Then the phone line went dead and I swiftly got Christine
and explained the situation to her
Rusty Sloan's stepbrother was Archimedes Sloan and
Archimedes was a dragaman.
As Christine listened as we drove out of the forest and back
into the seedier crime ridden part of the City
I explained what a dragaman was.
Basically brutish looking humans with scales ,batwings and other features that suggested there was a dragon somewhere in
the dragaman family tree.
And both Rusty and Archimedes dad had been the previous
DragaFather,the guy who ran organized crime selling
vials of fairy dust,unicorn prostitutes and plain old fashioned
contraband alcohol back into Fairy Land.
Rusty had decided not to carry on the crime traditions of his
stepbrother but Family was Family and sometimes he and I
helped the gangsters,other times we turned a blind eye and at
other times we let it be know if the dragaman Gangster Boys
would take a trip elsewhere for a while through
Rusty's many contacts with his dragaman chums.....
