Kai and Josh has been friends for two years in Charleston, South Carolina. In that short time they had become extremely close to the point that they were best friends. Josh was a year older, smarter, taller but less muscular than Kai, and had a pretty basic social life. Kai was energetic, outgoing, muscular, and had always had a knack for getting into trouble.
But the two of them were great together. They were great friends always looking out for each other, making sure each other were safe, and tried to spend every weekend hanging out together because they didn’t live close and thus didn’t go to the same school.
Josh was polite and reserved and always helped out at Kai’s house whenever he was over he looked after Kai’s little brother Chris, did the dish’s, cleaned the pool, cooked sometimes, and even when it was Kai’s job. Josh thought it was his obligation to help out at their house because Kai’s mother Hailey was working a lot as a single mother who also looked over two boys and just as many dogs.
It annoyed Kai sometimes because Hailey grew very found of having Josh around and even went as far as calling him her third son.
Over the summer before Josh went to college at Flagler University he was working a lot to have money on hand at college. Kai was also facing some stress when he was getting into fights with his mother and had even started having sex with random girls.
It was hard saying goodbye to Josh but Kai knew he would see him in a few months for thanksgiving.
However those few months were tough on Kai. He had become depressed and was fighting with his mom more often. He had turned to drinking more often and even drove home intoxicated after partying. He was Turing to coke for fun. He was ditching school and his grades were dropping. He was hanging out with friends that were losers with negative views and lethargic punitive efforts. He was having sex with random girls on tinder and during one call to Josh had confessed to getting a girl pregnant.
Josh was very worried about Kai when he had finally come back for thanksgiving. His mom was also very scared and didn’t know what to do nothing seemed to be working when he defied everything she said.
One day over break Hailey talked to Josh to come over. And when he was over there had noticed Kai was still at school. Hailey broke down in tears frightened that Kai wasn’t going to be able to graduate and have a horrible future. She told him that it had taken everything she had not to turn to It but she had no other choice. Josh was confused when she revealed a large grey cube which she called a chrovonic. She wanted to use it on Kai to fix his flukes but wanted to warn Josh because it may cause sudden transformations to both Kai’s and Josh’s life.
Josh has agreed it and at the time had thought that the chrovonic was supposed to use some sort of “ karma-spiritual-energy-positive vibe” , you know like the stuff they sell at all those foreign energy stores that preach the healing nature of Chrystals and shit.
Kai came home and they hung out for the remainder of the night. They went to sleep in the same bed like they normally would do since they became friends. But when Josh woke up his previous assumptions about the chrovonic being able to do anything were clearly proven wrong.
