Laura finds Hannah is more than happy to make conversation. Hannah goes into great detail about her grandchildren she is going to visit. Laura tries to recall things her nieces' enjoy, as Hannah barrages her with questions about things they might like.
Hannah seems to be satisfied with her answers and doesn't seem to pick up on anything amiss with the girl. Laura is glad that she isn't attracting any scrutiny, but even so being able to do easily pass as a real middle schooler was not a skill she wanted to have.
The train ride was otherwise uneventful and it pulls into the station. As it stops, Laura prepares to disembark when she is once again greeted by an employee. She realizes she made a slight miscalculation when asked who was picking her up.
Going with the first thing that came to mind, Laura claims her dad is supposed to meet her there but might be running late. Hannah offers to wait with the girl and the employee, seemingly reasonably assured the grandmother would keep an eye on the girl, accepts the offer and goes back to his duties.
With her bags returned, the two go to sit on a bench Laura pulls out her phone and makes a fake text chain. She shows the messages indicating her "dad" was caught up in a work emergency and instructing her to take a taxi to his home to Hannah.
"Oh I could hardly sleep tonight if I didn't see you off to your father personally. How about you let him know you'll be at my daughter's house and he can come pick you up there?"
"I really appreciate the offer but it's ok I've stayed by myself while he's been at work before and I have a key. Besides he could be stuck there pretty late."
"Oh come on now it's not safe for a young lady to be out by herself so late. Besides I'm sure my grandchildren would make better company than an empty house. If your father is uncomfortable with it why don't you call him and let me talk to him?"
Feeling sufficiently trapped Laura makes a few more fake texts, asking and getting permission to stay with the kind old woman. Hannah seemingly satisfied, leads her over to a waiting car driven by her daughter. After explaining the situation the woman, Beth, assures her she is welcome to stay overnight if necessary.
Reluctantly, Laura finds a seat in the back. While waiting to arrive at her new destination, she pulls up directions to the magic shop and is relieved to discover her host appears to live nearby. Arriving at the large two story house, she is led inside and finds herself once again separated from her bags by Hannah who places them on the kitchen table. She is then led up to a bedroom and introduced to a girl her current age, Annette.
