As the family looked at the chaos of the pool, two teens around Luke's age walked up. A guy and a girl who seemed to be facing back-to-back. Luke was awestruck when he realized it was is friends Peter and Lexi. The two were an interesting pair even before this. They were two peas in a pod. They didn't love each other or anything like that, but they were definitely close friends. In fact, new students at the school that met them were surprised that they were just best friends. Right now though, they were more like twins. Once the pair struggled close, they turned so that both could looked to Luke, at least somewhat.
"Luke? You and your family too," Lexi asked before Peter looked, seeing Suzie.
"So you and your sister are joined at the hip?" Luke nodded, realizing Suzie had never met them.
"Suzie. These are a couple of my friends, Peter and Lexi. Peter, Lexi. This is my little sister Suzie who's currently joined to my hip." The two both smiled, then noticed the siblings parents.
"Mr. Ethan? Miss Alisa? And I thought me and Lexi had it bad. I think walking like this is at least easier than face to face." Ethan and Alisa both looked uncomfortable at the comment, but they mostly ignored it. Peter then spoke again. "So how far does this go? People being...."
"Ellie! Slow down!" A young girl yelled, seeming to be sticking out of a teen girl's torso.
"Hey! This isn't my fault!" Peter looked back, not sure what to say.
"That. How many more people are like us?" Ethan sighed, answering the teen's question.
"We heard the news earlier. This.... It seems to be everywhere." Lexi seemed to get worried, lightly tugging her and Peter a little.
"How are people going to live like this? What about dating, and school, and work? What about people with a huge age difference. Heck, what about people like us? What if everyone in our families are joined to folks in different families."
"Yeah. This changes everything. At least we're a bit better off. Me and Lex, you and Suzie, and your parents have a better chance at getting split compared to being completely two headed, or having a single pair of legs or something." Lexi then sighed.
"Assuming the risk is worth it."
"Of course. I'd rather live together than die trying to split."
