It was the first time that the six of them had been out of the house in weeks, since the Quarantine had been announced. Not that they could see much, they sat on benches in a heavy-duty military truck with Amanda floating in a tank which was strapped down in the center of the truck bed. A single person in a bio-hazard suit sat with the six girls watching them and he was armed.
“Where are we going?” inquired Taylor
“Airport and then down to a place which can take care of you.” answered the armed man “You all have the mermaid strain of the virus, so say goodbye to dry land.”
“How can you act so calm?” inquired Lisa
“Lady, I have seen some shit a bunch of college girls becoming mermaids is nothing compared to seeing a semi turned dragon a mixture of flesh and scales believe me you don’t want to know what all I have seen.” Stated the man “I would call your families, once your in the air they will not let you and when you land you will not have much.”
What followed was panic tear-filled phone calls as each girl called home and sent text messages out to their friends and loved ones. Since Amanda couldn’t make the call, her roommate Stacy called Amanda’s parents and shared the news. Amanda couldn’t speak with them and their was no way to communicate back and forth with her, the only way to explain things to Amanda was to write it out on paper and show her what was written on it.
They where all still on their phones when they arrived at the small airport located outside of university, the CDC had taken over the place and made it their operational center. Multiple tents covered the airfield, there was even military vehicles and armed soldiers in battle dress. A small jet was being prepared at the end of the runway with the letters “CDC Monster transport.”
The truck pulled out as more men arrived all dressed in bio-hazard gear and they manhandled the tank containing Amanda into the passenger area and then they forced the five other girls into the plane. Tear filled calls had to be cut short as phones where grabbed out of their hands and they where strapped into their seats.
The passenger area was different then a normal aircraft, the pilot’s area was sealed off and separated by what looked like an airlock and sitting between them and the cockpit area was an armed guard. The jet took off within moments of the door closing. The jet took off and headed south.
“Are…are you guys alright?” inquired Rose as she looked at her friends, like her all of them where still in their sleeping cloths.
“No…we are becoming monsters.” Snapped Lisa with tears in her eyes
“Nothing we can do about it.” Stated Stacy shutting down the fight before it could begin. The next almost three hours pasted in a mixture of silence and soft crying as each of them faced the fate before them.
The aircraft passed over land and finally over the water to a small island in the Florida key, from above it looked like the entire island was nothing but a makeshift airport with a large warehouse which sat at the water’s edge and even out over the water.
The aircraft landed with a soft thump and the guard got off followed moments later by more guards and doctors all in bio-hazard gear got onto the plane and guided them off the plane and into the warehouse.
The warehouse was a rush affair with areas walled off, but the ceiling was bare beams with wiring clear as day running across the length.
“Alright, lets get you ladies settled into one of the rooms.” Said a doctor who to their amazement wasn’t in bio-hazard gear. She wasn’t even in scrubs or even anything that looked like normal doctor outfits. Instead she wore a white one-piece swimsuit with a red cross on the upper right chest. At first, they wondered why she wasn’t worried about the virus then they noticed that her feet and hands where webbed and she had closed slits on the side of her neck.
“You’re a monster?” inquired Rose
“Yes, Doctor Williams and I am a frogwoman, I will be helping you with the transition.” Explained Doctor Williams now follow me. The girls followed with Amanda being pushed toward a separate room.
“Where is she going?” inquired Rose
“She has already developed gills so she will need to go to a separate area.” Explained Doctor Williams “A merdoctor will be tending to her for the moment, once you all get gills you will see her again.”
