My reflection is...George!
Turning around again, I only see my old body (now inhabited by George) in the room. I suppose that the night watchman must have peeked in to check the room and somehow not noticed the two of us scrambling around.
I run to my/George's side and shake him gently. "Wake up, George!" I whisper. "It worked!"
He lets out a moan, then his eyes come open. They widen when he sees me in his body looming over him. "What?" he hisses. He holds up my hands which are now his, then feels himself over. "Alvin, I...I'm you!"
"Yeah," I say. Then I look at the mind-swapper. It's smoking.
"That's not good," I say, pointing it out to George.
He sees it too. "Oh no," he moans. "It'll take me all week to fix it."
"So we're stuck as each other all week?" I ask, a little scared.
George nods miserably. "Yes. We're going to have to pretend to be each other."
I think for a moment. "It could be worse," I say. "You and I think the same on a lot of things. And hey, I could get used to this," I add, gesturing down at George's body.
Now you're probably wondering what I'm talking about. After all, didn't I say that George Solcolowski is the biggest geek in my class? And geeks are always little nobodies. Well, that is certainly not true of George.
He and I have been best friends since kindergarten, always by each other's side. We discovered that we were both intelligent beyond our years and really into science. In fact, we both ended up at an academy for gifted teens, which is where we learned about science camp to begin with.
But George turned out to be gifted in other ways as well, while I was not. One word: puberty. While we both became decently tall, I remained the skinny, pasty blond boy I'd always been. George, though, became the school heartthrob, every girl's wet dream. He's handsome as the model he is (part-time), with black hair trimmed stylishly short, tanned skin, and chiseled features. He's also an athlete on the academy's football and wrestling teams weighing 220 pounds of muscle. In short, I am very blessed to have swapped with him and not someone else.
George scowls at me with my own face. "Yeah, well, don't. And don't mess me up while you're in there."
"I will do my best." I gave him a mock salute.
