Brad was dumbfounded, "You're a Genie? Who grants endless wishes. And I am now cursed... To destroy myself with them?"
"Yes master. I am so sorry!" Genie whimpered, an emotional wreck.
"But you think that I could wish you away, before the curse completes?" Brad pondered out loud. "But what if, instead, I wished that I wasn't effected by the curse? That wouldn't be breaking the curse itself... so I shouldn't suffer the backlash, right?"
Genie looked up excitedly, "Oh Master, that might work! If it does, my existence may have meaning again! I live to fulfill your wildest dreams, not to watch as you are forced to abandon your life! Please try it?"
"Well then Genie, I wish I was not effected by the curse and that I would word my wishes properly to get what I intend." Was what Brad wanted to say, but it came out as "I wish I was stronger and more muscular and that only you would notice the changes, but my wardrobe would change to match." Brad said with a smile
"As you wish Master." Genie said crestfallen. Brad went from being 115 lbs up to 155 and as this happened all his clothes changed to fit his new proportions. He was now very strong and muscular for a 14 year old.
"Did it work?" Brad questioned noting Genie's sad look.
So obviously, changing the curse to keep it from effecting whoever is Master is considered the same as breaking it even if it would effect another. Genie was in an awkward position. Telling Brad that he changed would make him look at himself but he would see no changes. Then he may doubt that Genie was telling the truth about the curse all together! On the other hand, saying it did work would consign him to his fate, he would no longer try to find a solution.
Ever wishing the best for her master Genie decided to tell him what really happened, "No Master, the curse was activated and the wish was to change yourself and wipe your own memory of being any different! The curse is working to cast doubt on me to protect itself!"
Brad did find this really hard to believe as he looked into his mirror and saw the same buff boy he always remembered. "Alright Genie, I wish that I could watch and hear what happened when I made my wish as though I was a third person in the room."
Brad immediately received a vision watching the scene unfold before him. As soon as the trance ended, he went pale and said, "Oh." equally crestfallen. "So, if I can't break the curse, maybe I can make it not as bad? Like, whoever is your master is blessed in such that any wish they make can only turn them into something a non-cursed version of them would approve of given any extenuating circumstances? That wouldn't be attacking the curse but might keep people from becoming animals or disappearing from existence... unless that was always a dream of their's. Then I would feel more comfortable trying to get rid of the curse because if it backfires, at least I won't become something I'd hate to be. Even if you disappear and I don't remember you or who I was."
Genie contemplated for a few moments, "That may work but the curse may retaliate if it senses that you are attacking it. And even now, do you hate the thought of being a pro athlete or movie star? Just because you wouldn't hate it doesn't mean you would keep your family, friends, and personality. Then again, even trying to wish me away may be considered trying to remove the curse before its completion and would probably backfire."
