As we lay in the sand and each tried to catch our breath, Amanda gazed up at the sky, seemingly deep in thought. She shaded her eyes from the sun with one hand and stroked away some of the sand that was already drying on the scales of her tail with the other.
"Penny for your thoughts?"
"What?" Amanda looked around, "Sorry...I was just thinking about the ring. About how we should take this chance to explore everything we can and do everything we can imagine. Make me a promise, that we'll do all of that; but at the end I can still become a mermaid again. The one thing I never want to be is a librarian as long as I live!"
I nodded in reply.
"Are you rested?"
I nodded again.
"Then I have another idea." Amanda leaned over and whispered in my ear, at first I had to run what she was asking for over in my mind; but in the end I agreed as the ring would only fulfill her most precious wishes and were she half-hearted in her requests then nothing at all would happen.
I picked her up and walked to the point where the beach gave way to vegetation and the beginnings of what looked like a tropical forest. There I placed her down on a wide and flat rock, the fins of her tail upon the ground as she watched me intently. I took one last look at the alluring shape of her tail and then whispered her wish back into her ear before I retired a little way back to watch what would happen.
At the same time Amanda's tail seemed to shed its scales and split down the centre as her legs reappeared. Soon the ground around her feet was littered with the shed scales and the fins that fell from the ends of her feet. Amanda was now naked and human once more; but the changes did not stop there. Instead the lower portion of her body started to move once more and soon her legs bid the world farewell one more time as first her crotch and then her thighs melded together followed by her calves and feet. The moment this was over, I watched as her feet twitched and then exploded into a mass of tendrils that groped around on the ground before beginning to burrow into the very earth. At the same time a distinct green tinge had begun to creep into Amanda's skin, beginning at the point where her feet had taken root and spreading back up her body.
Soon it became clear that her legs were also stiffening as they changed colour. Where Amanda had previously been reclined upon the rock, now she was being drawn slowly forwards as the effect took hold so that by the time it reached her knees I could see that she was being forced into a standing position. The stiffness snapped her thighs upwards and pitched her forwards like a drunken jack-in-the-box until I caught her and held her still.
My hands were on her buttocks as the change overtook them and I felt them become firmer and smoother than any human skin had ever been. But though no longer human, the feeling was nonetheless warm and pleasant to the touch. As odd as it seemed, the experience was something like gently squeezing an oversized tomato, but I kept that observation to myself.
It was now the turn of Amanda's torso as the green tinge inched up her belly and over her exposed breasts. Considering the effect the change had had on her buttocks, I was very interested to see if the same would be true of this other part of her anatomy. The tinge covered her arms, but stopped short of her head where instead her hair blossomed with the delicate flowers which dot cherry trees before they bear their fruit.
I kissed her on the lips and laughed when I realised that she even tasted of cherrys too.
