Darrell realized that plants could reproduce both sexually through flowers and asexually by division.
The offspring by division was exactly like the parent plant, except a smaller version.
Darrell had an idea. He stuck a woody toe into the dirt and thought about it rooting. Sure enough, it did. Apparently he had some conscious control over rooting. Now he wondered if he had some conscious control over asexual reproduction.
He concentrated and from his toe, a shoot grew, but instead of a sucker-sapling, a small humanoid figure filled out from the green shoot. By sun up, it was a fully formed smaller version of himself with all his knowledge. The clone looked up at Darrell and said, “Hand me the notes, father, I’ll see what I can do to help you change back… but as for me, I would rather stay an Ent…” the green sapling smiled then, “And perhaps, with your help, you might find a way to give me an Ent wife?”
