Anna was quicker than Aaron to swim to the mer-village. For some reason, she felt lighter, as if some great weight was lifted out of her shoulders. For a brief moment, she felt as if she was flying rather than swimming. Of course, in the back of her mind, she knew exactly the reason.
Now that her body wasn’t locked into mating cycles and her eggs weren’t at risk of perishing from being left alone in the ocean, her mind felt liberated.
As she looked around, Anna could see the looks of wonder and bewilderment that colored the faces of the many merfolk in the village. One thing she can spot, however, was that the few mermen within the village looked delighted with their new fins.
She could even see a few mermen starting to flirt with some mermaids, confident in showing off their new aquatic packages. It didn’t take a genius to know what is going to happen next.
Anna couldn’t help but smile, she and Aaron managed to bring a whole new age of merfolk. As she said before, things were going to be different for the entire race of merpeople from now on.
While her mind could wander endlessly on the many new possibilities the wish gave to the merpeople, Anna had one thing on her mind. Eric.
For over a year, Anna and Eric managed to stick together, even with the many failed attempts of having merchildren. It was clear to the mermaid that Aaron and Eric initially had bad blood due to the restrictive nature of mating. Now Anna could only imagine the look on Eric’s face.
“Anna!” A familiar voice called out to her.
A smile beamed on Anna’s face she laid her eyes on her mate, his arms reached out to grab her. “Eric!” She cried out.
Anna embraced Eric as tight as possible, giving him a long and passionate kiss on top of that. The kiss lasted for seemingly forever, and the couple was more than happy to take it all in. Eventually, their lips parted and Eric spoke up.
“Anna. I was looking all over for you. I was waiting for you when I felt pain and something came out of my -”
“I know, I know,” Anna said with a giggle. “I made that wish. Of course, Aaron helped with giving me ideas and all.” She said teasingly. “But I was the one who made that wish. From the sex to childbirth, I wished for merfolk to be free from mating cycles and leavings eggs in the open - That stuff won’t happen anymore”
Eric looked at Anna in amazement, but he couldn’t help but smile in pride of she had done for his kind. “Wow, I can’t believe it… I just… Man, you’re really something else, Anna.” He sighed in awe.
Giggling, Anna gave Eric another kiss. “I mainly did for the two of us, Eric. Now we can make love whenever we want. And…” She paused. “We can finally be parents.”
The two of them didn’t say a word after that. If they were on land, tears would be coming out of their eyes of the realization of them finally having children at peace. No more worries about eels, sharks, or any eggs to think over in bed.
Parenthood felt more tangible to them now. Finally, their relationship could take a new step, and fin, forward.
Eric embraced Anna tighter and gave her another long but very loving kiss. This time, it lasted even longer, but it didn’t matter. Anna moaned as she felt her body practically melt in the arms of her merman. This was heaven, her heaven.
When their lips parted, Eric spoke suggestively, "Want to go back to my home? You know… The first thing newlyweds do when they enter their bedroom together for the first time is—"
“Oh! You remembered!” Anna squealed excitedly. “Yes! Please!”
“Come on, let’s go home,” Eric said. Anna nodded gratefully as the two of them started to swim back that familiar giant clamshell house.
