The tunnels lead you both through corridors and computer rooms; this is far too sophisticated to be a small-town bunker. Something seems strange.
“What were you all doing down here?” You ask with suspicion.
“What? What do you mean?” She tries to evade the topic.
Walking through another small tunnel gives way to a destroyed room, full of medic beds and containment cells for patients. “This isn’t exactly an ordinary shelter. It looks more like a laboratory to me.”
Tara stops in her tracks to look around at the ransacked medic beds. Blood-stained pillows and sheets; glass walls to the containment cells shattered. “The wolves must’ve contaminated the patients.” She whispers with horror on her face.
Turning around to face her you say, “What are you talking about!? Just tell me, what’s going on down here?”
She looks to the ground, clearing her throat. “This facility was made by a secret company working to find a cure for the werewolf disease. However, they needed willing test subjects in order to experiment with their research.”
The ground shakes slightly, causing the fluorescent lighting to flicker. The shaking quickly fades, sending a chill down your spine. “Let’s keep moving” you say as you both exit the room. “So how did they get test subjects?” you continue to probe her story while walking at a fast pace.
“The small town was offered a sanctuary if they agreed to the company’s terms and didn’t ask questions. Most of the town complied while a few others stayed in town.”
You further your investigation, “So, are you a scientist?”
“No,” she reassures you, “I was… I was a… um, test subject.”
You stop and turn to look at her. She quickly states, “but I’m not infected! I wasn’t even touched by the wolves.”
You nod at her with confirmation, and proceed to the end of the hallway. As you reach a T-intersection hallway, you notice a dark room to the right; it’s a security camera room!
“Hang on,” you say with an intrigued voice, making your detour to the right.
She follows after you, “Those wolves that chased you here could have traced your scent down here by now! We need to move, now!”
“These are security cameras.” you shout back as you lean closer to the monitors.
Tara, now as interested as you, runs to the room. “Move over, I gotta see something.” She begins searching through the history footage from a few days prior. She types in the date and time of the incident that drove everyone out of the bunker.
They both watch intently to see where the intrusion began. Only, they discover that it wasn’t a wolf trying to get in; it was a test subject who mutated into a werewolf! The accident began in the medic room they had passed a few moments ago! You are both speechless.
Noticing something in the corner of your eye, you turn to look at the live cams. You see a large werewolf break open the door to the entrance you came in! Time is not on your side now. You and Tara must get to the exit ASAP. You both begin running, only a short distance remains. Undenounced to you, Tara is feeling some weird sensations in her body…
