Jeff had never been so scared his entire life as he and his girlfriend Amber walked up a steep hiking trail, it was just before dawn and the woods was alive with the sounds of animals moving about. Aside from them there was no signs of humans.
“You doing ok Jeff?” inquired Amber as she turned around and looked at him. She wore khaki shorts and had a small bag on her back with some water and rain gear if a surprise storm came up. However, the forecast was for clear sky.
“Still not totally used to this.” Admitted Jeff, he had been overweight when he had meet Amber, so had she but together they had started to get into shape. Amber was ahead of him on that, her work schedule allowed her more time to do things like this but he was still down over a 100 pounds, going from just under 350 pounds to his current weight of 230. His goal was another 30 or so pounds but working at a desk all day made it hard but he would do it. “I think I like the river path better.”
“Yes, but this has an amazing view at sunrise which you have to see.” Answered Amber as they pushed on. Finally they reached the spot, a small clearing overlooking a drop of about 300 ft into thick canopy of pine trees. That was already a sight to see but before them laid out was a large broad valley untouched by human hands aside from a few roads which where currently clear of any traffic that they could see.
“Isn’t it breathtaking.” Said Amber as the sun began to side illuminating the valley before them.
“Yes.” Answered Jeff taking it all in and most of all Amber as he reached into his bag and pulled the ring box he had been hiding for over a week. He moved behind Amber and got down on one knee. “Amber…”
“What?” inquired Amber as she turned around and stopped, her eyes widening as she looked at him.
“Amber…will you marry me?” inquired Jeff he had never been so scared in his life, but he knew this was the right thing to do. He loved this woman and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. He looked at her expecting to see tears of joy or her nodding her head yes. At worse he expected anger or sadness but instead Amber’s face had gone bleach white and a look of fear filled her face. She wasn’t even looking at him but beyond him into the woods.
“What?” inquired Jeff as he stood up and looked toward the woods and that is when he saw them…
