The days of quarantine dragged on, everyone in the house was getting cabin fever as they couldn’t leave the house. They had a back yard, which they could go into but the entire area was tiny and there was constant “requests” on the news that people remain inside. No one knew how the virus spread, some say it was airborne, some waterborne and everything else possible. Some websites even went as far as saying that the virus was magical or the work of aliens.
Then it got worse.
“This is breaking news.” Said the anchor on the 24 hours news channel that Rose had on while she read her medical book for the 4th time. Rose lowered her book and turned to the news, what had once been an African American news Anchor was now a very attractive female centaur. “The virus has mutated…the CDC and department of Monsters have confirmed that the virus seams to have mutated yet again, it is unclear how it has mutated yet but all reports are clear it speeds up the changes to the point where a person can change within 15 minutes of the first sign.”
“My God.” Said Rose unaware that at that moment a CDC van was pulling up in front of the house. She stopped and watched the news unaware of the doctor in fully bio-hazard suit walking up to the house. She jumped a bit when the front doorbell rung.
The only people who came to the door, was the military personal who came by to drop off food and bottle water, no one trusted tap water in case the virus was spread by drinking water and the CDC. The CDC had made it a habit of testing everyone in a house’s blood every couple of days to give people some warning of the change, it didn’t always work but it was the best they could.
Rose ran to the staircase and looked toward the front door. Stacy was standing before the open door with a doctor before her, the rest of the house had arrived coming either from the kitchen, living rooms or their own bedrooms.
“I am afraid ladies you are all infected and worse, yet you all have the new fast acting strain of the flu.” Explained the doctor in a somewhat detached voice. Rose couldn’t blame him; he like so many of the doctors where working none stop and he had to be tired. “You should expect the first changes to come over you within the next few hours and it will be done within a few minutes.”
There was stunned silence.
“What…what are we becoming?” inquired Stacy as the doctor looked down at his clip board and prepared to give the news.
“You are becoming….”
