Rose sighed as Richard left the house. "I just hope that man doesn't do anything stupid that could get us in trouble," she mumbled to herself before taking a sip of her coffee. She heard Frank come down the stairs as she put her mug down.
Frank came down the stairs and noticed Rose in the dining room alone. "I assume that Rob and Rachel's in school now," Frank said, "but where's dad?"
"Oh, he went up to the college to talk to someone about this whole Mandatory Were business," Rose answered before taking another sip of her coffee.
Frank went to the cupboard to get out a bowl and some cereal and then went to the fridge for milk. He poured some cereal and milk into the bowl and put everything away before getting a spoon. He sat at the table with Rose and took a mouthful of cereal before talking. "So, what do you think about this whole were business that this town has?"
"Honestly?" Rose answered, "I'm not sure what to think. I knew this town was special, but not like this. I mean, the people seem nice enough. I haven't seen any monsters yet, but yet...why not just try to live like normal people?"
"Yeah, I know what you mean. It's almost like their afraid of how people would react. I mean, look at dad."
Rose sighed and said, "He's not taking this well." She took another sip of her coffee before continuing, "I mean, I love the man, but sometimes he gets a little too...hotheaded if you will. The passion is great and all, but sometimes he goes a little too far."
"Isn't that where you step in?" Frank asked with a bit of a smirk.
"Yes, I do have that effect on him," Rose replied, "but this...sometimes I can't control him or calm him and once he makes up his mind..."
Frank sighed and said, "Yeah...he can get a bit stubborn." He poked at his cereal with his spoon before he said, "I think I should be the one to change. I mean, I'm the one responsible for this, right?"
Rose put the mug down on the table before she said, "Frank, you aren't really responsible for this. You, or anyone else in this family, had no idea of this town or this law."
"Maybe," he replied as he continued to poke the cereal, "but it was my decision to come to this school."
"But it was Richard's decision to bring the rest of the family along," Rose retorted, "And you know full well that once he makes up his mind on something..."
"Yeah, yeah, I know I know,"
"The point is," Rose continued, "you aren't responsible for this. So don't go thinking that it's you that has to become the family were."
Frank continued to stir the cereal with his spoon before taking a bite. He then asked, "What do you think the town'll do if we try to...you know...leave or something?"
Rose sighed and said, "Honestly, I don't know. I mean, they could try to jail us or fine us or something, but maybe that's about it. Maybe we're just overthinking things a bit and maybe things aren't as bad as we think."
"I hope you're right," Frank said as he ate another spoonful of cereal.
"At any rate," Rose said, "Your father and I will have a discussion on this later tonight. This reminds me is that when he gets back, we'll need to go shopping for some food. We brought some foodstuff when we moved from Michigan, but it won't last more than a few days."
"Right," Frank said as he finished off the cereal, "And I got some homework to do for school." He drank the milk out of the bowl before putting the bowl and spoon in the sink. He then made his way back upstairs to his room and his computer.
Rose sighed as she said, "Richard, I hope you aren't doing something to put us in trouble."
