Laura tells at the cat to shoo it away and succeeds. Except that it's tail swipes the die off the table as it turns to run away. It falls to the ground and Laura dives to catch it, just barely coming short.
"Fourteen years you have walked this Earth, now this number is but nine, each roll of the dice shall restore more of what you have lost."
Laura groans as she feels her niece's formerly tight clothes grow too big on her frame. She picks up the dice and climbs back to her feet. Walking up to her brother's room she finds his personal safe, puts in the code, and seals the dice inside. That should keep them from rolling for now, but now she needs new clothes, again.
Her younger niece was only five so thankfully nothing there would fit her. Returning to the teenager's room, she looks through the back of the closet for anything that may have been saved from her younger years. The only thing approaching the right size is a frilly pink dress. A flower girl's dress. Laura recognizes it as the one wotn by her niece at her own wedding when the girl was 7. Unhappily, she pulls the dress on. It's definitely too small on an older girl's frame, but it at least isn't falling off.
Underwear is the next hurdle. In the back of the closet is a mostly empty package of goodnites leftover from her niece's bedwetting days. Hoping to avoid being stuck in something that embarrassing, she scours the room for anything else. Coming up short, she reluctantly pulls on the nighttime "underwear".
Looking in the mirror, she sees that in the ill fitting dress bending over or stretching up gives a clear view of her padding. The best description of her new look she can think of is "overgrown toddler". She imagines seeing her like this would send her ex laughing to tears. He may even offer to make her the flower girl for his new wedding to his younger woman. who is now many years her senior.
Does she really want to go out looking like this? She might die of embarrassment before getting anywhere near the magic store. Maybe there's something more appropriate shoved up in the attic or, recalling how much of a tomboy her younger niece is, she should take the risk of rolling one of the dice. It could at least make this dress less undersized if she rolls low. Though she doesn't even want to consider the effects of rolling high.
