Decisions, Decisions

added by Alphagor 3 years ago O

Considering there was no undoing a conversion, deciding what kind of Animalian you become is very important as you'll have to live with it for the rest of your life. There were plenty of people who do want to convert, for various medical or even psychological reasons. However, some people don't know what kind of animal they want to be spliced with.

A good example would be the young ladies that Miss Fabina was looking over. Most of them were Japanese girls who each had a physical abnormality. Not lethal, but very cumbersome. While they certainly wanted to become Animalians to deal with these problems, they had trouble deciding what they wanted to be. However, there was a special program for situations like this. By looking over their personalities, interests, and what they didn't want, the program can narrow down the decisions to a more manageable list of selections.

It took a bit of work, but Fabina thought she had something the girls could choose from. Ami accompanied her to see the girls, considering the girls didn't have a complete grasp of English and Ami was fluently bilingual. The girls gave the two white canines their full attention when they walked into the room.

"Ok, girls, I think I've narrowed down your choices for possible animals," said Fabina, Ami repeating what she said in Japanese. Fabina turned Naomi, who was far taller than normal, even for American standards. "Now, Naomi, you'd rather not be one of the big animals, right?"

"I'm already big enough as it is," said Naomi.

"And you wanted to be a gymnast when you were younger, yes?" asked Fabina.

"I've thought about it a lot," said Naomi, "But then I got too big for that."

"Well, Animalian don't have the same height restrictions," said Fabina, "For you, I think you would want to be one of the nimbler animals, with a good sense of balance."

"That sounds right," said Naomi.

"Well, there are plenty of tree-dwelling animals: cats, monkeys, raccoons, squirrels..."

"Hmm...do you think I can be a flying squirrel?" asked Naomi.

"Potentially," said Fabina, "But you should realize that being a flying squirrel is very different from being one of the true flyers."

"How so?" asked Naomi.

"Well, unlike them, you won't have wings on your back," said Fabina, "You'll have a membrane connecting your arms and legs, which will naturally complicate what you'll have to wear."

"Oh...I guess a normal squirrel will do," said Naomi.

Fabina nodded before turning to Honaka, who burdened with oversized breasts. "Now then, you made it clear that you don't want to be a cow or any dairy animal," said Fabina.

"I've got big enough breasts as it is," said Honaka, "And nobody takes me seriously for it."

"It seems to me that the easiest way is to become a non-mammalian," said Fabina, "Your file says you were an archery champion at your school before your breasts became too much of a burden."

"I'm still an archery champion," said Honaka a little haughtily, "Despite having a too-large chest."

"Hmm, well, I was thinking a bird would suit you well," said Fabina, "Preferably one with good eyesight. The first one that came to mind is an owl."

"Not an owl," said Honaka firmly, "Owls are not as wise and clever as westerners think. Besides, I don't want have to deal with the, how do you say, 'hooters' jokes."

"Ok, that's a very good point," said Fabina.

"But I think I would like to be a bird," said Honaka, "Maybe a crane, a red-crowned crane."

"Well, you'd be able to get a sponsor for that," said Fabina. Then she turned to the third Japanese girl. "I'm sorry, Tomi, but I'm still having trouble with you. If you could just give me something to narrow it down..."

Tomi suffered from myostatin-related hyperthropy, not unlike what gives the Belgian Blue their particular bulk. While she wasn't taller or bustier than the average Japanese girl, she was far more muscular. Tomi didn't have as much of a problem with her genetic irregularity as the other two. She was already a tomboy even before her muscles began growing out of proportion. The only real problem is that she felt like she was living his houses made of paper. (And considering certain Japanese architecture, that phrase is a little more literal.) Tomi was also a bit of a ruffian, something that Ami called a 'yankii', whatever that means.

Tomi just shrugged and said, "Just so long as you don't give me something wimpy."

Fabina sighed. Tomi was not being very helpful with this. Then Fabina turned to the last girl, the only one who wasn't Japanese after Alice converted. Fabina liked Aida, her Italian roots reminded Fabina of home. However, Aida also had a major problem, though it was a mental problem rather than physical. Aida was so shy it was hard to get more than three words out of her at a time and even harder to hear them.

"Aida, you know that the Animalian virus tends to work more for physical problems than mental troubles," said Fabina.

"I know..." muttered Aida. If it weren't for Fabina's sharp canine hearing, she'd have had trouble picking it up.

"Still, sometimes it helps, settles the brain chemicals and whatnot," said Fabina.

"That sounds ok," muttered Aida.

"However, it's clear you need more of a confidence boost. I talked with Dr. Jones and he suggests I run this by you. Do you think you might feel better as a honey badger?" asked Fabina.

"Honey badger?" asked Aida, speaking up a little louder.

"Yes, I mean, they're not as psychotic as the internet would have you believe. It may help you come more out of your shell and not be so dependent on others," said Fabina.

"Well..." hesitated Aida.

Just then, Tomi snapped something in agitation. She had switched to her native Japanese, so it was impossibly for Fabina to know what she was saying. Though her tone did a pretty good job of conveying her anger. When Tomi finished, Fabina asked, "What did she say?"

"Well, the short and polite version was that she's annoyed you'd waste something as cool as a honey badger on a mouse like Aida," said Ami, "She said if anyone deserves to be a honey badger, it should be her."

Fabina gave Tomi an uncertain look before saying, "I'm not so sure. Isn't she reckless enough?"

"She's not as volatile as you think," said Ami, "Or at least, she doesn't lash out at everybody. She's known to be something like a bully hunter in her school."

"Well, I don't think there's a problem with them both being honey badgers," said Fabina, "But I should probably run this by Dr. Jones first. I wouldn't want Tomi's personality reacting wrong to badger instincts."

"I can certainly understand that," said Ami.
