"What was that?" asked Maggie and all three heard the thump on the roof above. She was in the family room watching a movie with her husband Derek and their other son, the fourteen year old Erik. They listened as they heard quick footsteps across the roof followed by a this of someone or something big hitting the ground.
All three went to the window as the floodlights flicked on. They were shocked to see kneeling on the ground was a hulking, furry beast who turned to them and let out a low growl before getting up on two legs and running off into the night.
"What was that?!" cried out Nate's Mom.
"Some sort of dog?" Derek was also confused.
"I wonder if Nate saw anything!" said Erik, running upstairs. Maggie and Derek, concerned for their son's safety, quickly followed.
Erik briefly knocked on the door before barging into his brother's room.
"Nate, did you see the monster?" Erik was excited as he scanned the room for his brother. When he didn't see him, he walked over to the bathroom. The light was still on, but no sight of Nate except for a pile of clothes in the corner. He noticed the small, plastic bag left on the counter and picked it up. Erik examined it and sniffed inside as he walked back into the bedroom, where both his parents now were.
"Well, where is he?" Derek looked down at his son and noticed the small baggie. "What do you have there?"
"I found it in Nate's bathroom." Erik handed the small baggie to Derek. Derek looked it over and noticed the trace residue of white powder.
"Is he in there? Nate?" Derek walked over and peered into the bathroom. He noticed the same clothes on the floor, but also noticed something else: long, brown hairs on the tiled floor. Just like the ones the beast they saw had. Suddenly, all the pieces fell into place. He bent over and picked up the pieces of hair and walked back into the bedroom.
"Well, I have no idea where he could have gone…" said Maggie, clearly perplexed.
"I do." Derek walked over to Maggie and Erik. "That dog thing we saw outside? I think that was Nate. I found these hairs in the bathroom. And this packet...I think it had Lunar Ecstasy in it."
"You mean that stuff on the news that…" started Maggie.
"Yep, that stuff. He used it to become a werewolf."
"My brother is a werewolf?! Bitchin'!" Erik did a fist pump. "I always wanted a dog, but this is way cooler."
"Quiet Erik. Your brother is in a lot of trouble for this." Derek turned back to Maggie. "How do we deal with this?"
Maggie shrugged her shoulders. “I’m not sure...ground him? If he comes home and has turned back to normal?”
“Ok, we’ll deal with it when he comes home.” Derek shook his head, completely baffled as to how to deal with this as he stuck the envelope in his pants pocket.
