Aaron Sullivan woke up groggily in a bed he soon found to be empty other than himself. Looking over to find his wife once again missing he sighed and simply got up, not even bothering to check for any message she left. She's off seeing her 'co-worker' Eugene Jeffery again, he's worked that out by now.
As he got up and slowly woke up he went over how his life had gotten to this point. His marriage was great at some point, he thinks anyway. But by now at the ripe age of 43 it was in tatters.
Failures to have any child over all these years of marriage and a work cycle which caused them to barely see each other these days, and when they did see each other they were usually too tired to do much, all of this had thrown a real wench into his relationship wit his wife.
And now his wife was cheating on him with this Eugene, it was obvious and everyone knew. But with finances as tight as they are, a divorce is a disruption neither of them needs right now, so neither him nor his wife, Mallory ever acknowledge how obvious it is. He couldn't particularly blame her, their 'bed life' had been crap for years. Especially since their workloads and all the mischarges have put a very big sour feeling on them.
Work was a massive stress for both of them. Aaron worked for a accounting firm, a middle level manager struggling to move up the ranks any further while dealing with the insane demands of upper management and their nepotism, nepotism which means he keeps getting passed over for promotions in favour of less qualified candidates with a connection to senior management.
Putting his glasses on he gazes into the bedroom mirror and looks at himself. A overweight Caucasian male with balding and greying black hair. Wearing only a pair of boxers.
"When did I let myself go...." He sighs resigned to his life. Somethings he wonder if things were ever going his way. Sure he was a nice house, but both his wife have had to get demanding jobs to pay the mortgage. Mallory's job at that corporate law firm had long hours but also apparently gave her plenty of time to get one-on-one with co-workers far more attractive and put together than Aaron.
Finally done with his morning bout of self-pity, Aaron got up from his room and begun his day. Although even still, a part of him longed for a change. Anything to put his life in a new direction rather than the horrible limbo he seems to be caught into.
Because right now he was a childless, overweight, 47 year old mid-level manager whose wife was cheating on him. Little did he know was that one way or another, his life was be changing a lot very soon. Although probably not in a way he ever imagined. Perhaps other-worldly forces took pity on his plight, maybe he will get caught up in something beyond him or it could just be he will finally find the confidence and ability to make a change. But a new direction was what Aaron was getting, for better or for worse.
