Your dreams were pleasant, colorful, non-language specific. Grass, flashing colors, fields, your mother... of course, you know of nothing else anymore. Your life of the past is deep in the back of your subconscious now, something you can barely remember. There is no turning back now. Your human life has faded away, and you can no longer remember your human name, your human family, anything of your past life. The other babies can, but you gorged yourself too much on Bessie's milk.
You blink your big, black eyes and look around, seeing your brothers and sisters deep asleep.
You feel the need to be picked up, held by your mother. You cry loudly, causing the other babies to wake up. They look at you, perplexed and confused. The cowgirls awake as well. One rushes over to you, desperately trying to calm you down, lifting you onto her shoulder, singing, anything she can, but you are inconsolable. The other runs off to get Bessie, who begrudgingly marches into the room.
"What's the problem?" She grumbles, looking you over.
"I don't know!" The cowgirl shouts over your wailing. "None of the babies have ever acted like this one!"
"C'mon, give him here already." The cowgirl obliges, and you instantly stop crying, a wide toothless smile on your face. "Oh, now you stop crying, huh? What's your problem, kiddo?"
"Uh... if you don't mind me asking, my mistress..." One of the cowgirls volunteers.
"Might as well," Bessie mutters.
"I think you might have fed him too long. I mean, how long were the others suckling?"
"Not too long... oh, God, you're right. This one's regressed more than I thought. Jeez. Do we have to bring him to the labs tomorrow or something?"
"Not a bad idea. But I think this one might be a bit... more than the others, I mean, look at him. He even looks like you."
"You're right... he does have my eyes... he's very cute. You're a cute little baby, aren't you, little Ferdinand?" She smiles a bit as you squeal with delight at being held by your mother. You grab at her horns and give her a big kiss on the face, wide-mouthed like a true baby.
"I guess I'll take care of this one personally," Bessie says as she walks back to her room and settles onto her bed, holding you close to her chest as the two of you begin to doze comfortably.
