"What are your interests? Do you have any hobbies or anything?"
Morgan seemed truly surprised by this turn in conversation. She never expected to be asked about herself.
"Well, um, I do have an interest in....well, it's kind of silly....I mean..."
"No, I'm really interested Morgan. What is it you're interested in?"
"Well I sort of collect old letters....Actually, old love letters."
This caught James by surprise as he truly wanted to know more. "What do you mean?"
Morgan reached into her cloak and pulled out a stack of very old letters bound together with twine. She meekly handed them to James who looked at them. They were various love letters written by various men and women decades earlier and some of them more than two centuries old.
" I scour antique shops and estate sales when I can and old letters are usually very cheap, unless they are written by someone famous."
James browse through some of the letters, and they were very touching and the language unlike one typically see's in today's society with email and Instagram. He carefully handed them back to Morgan.
"So why this?"
Morgan looked down and away as a tear formed in her eye slightly.
"Well let's just say I had an unhappy home life, and when I first came here I had not really developed yet and I was kind of....heavy...ok, I was fat."
James looked taken aback as he could not imagine this beautiful girl before him that way.
"I only finally got my growth spurt and lost all this weight a little more than a year ago. Before then I was picked on mercilessly by a lot of the girls here. All of them with their prefect bodies and fake smiles. Well I wiped a lot of their smirks off their faces this past year. I'm a better witch than all of them here. I'm sorry.....you didn't come here to listen to me have a pity party. I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me."
Suddenly James saw Morgan in a whole new light and it became instantly clear why she had that icy veneer and seemed so harsh. She was in reality a very sweet girl.
"I guess reading these letters of love and friendship throughout time helped me imagine that one day I could be loved in such a way. Silly, isn't it?"
"No, I don't think it is silly at all Morgan. In fact, I find it quite a lovely thought."
Morgan looked up at James and smiled at him. At that moment James saw Morgan in all her beauty and was struck how much her smiled warmed his heart.
Suddenly, he heard his mistress calling him.
"James! Come here! It is time for you to spend some quality time with your two finalists!"
James was about to get up when Morgan unexpectedly leaned in and gave James a gentle kiss on his cheek. "Thank you for taking the time to talk to me and not at me. No one has ever done that before. I know you were probably just being polite, but thanks anyway. It meant alot."
James Looked at her and smiled as he trotted over to his mistress. But now he was truly conflicted as to what to do.
