Fred Ferguson was the only son of the Ferguson's a family who for countless generations had been blessed with the gift of fortune telling. There were a few strings attached with the power, but in general they did well with their limitations. Sadly for Fred for a bunch of other generations their family had lost the gift of fortune telling, but made due with just learning signs of the future. Their predictions went down the drain in reliability, but they knew enough and were able to become relatively successful. They owned a nice apartment in the city, were able to avoid most major fights and struggles in the city, and did well on the stock markets.
As a child Fred loved Fortune telling and hearing the stories of his ancestors giving fortunes. This made it a no brainier for him to accept a deal with some god which was basically "I'm just going to give you the ability to tell the future with 100% accuracy." The only real string attached being how the god allowed Fred to see the future.
Basically Fred prompts the god to give him some information on something. The god then quickly makes something up, the plausibility usually determined by how closely the god was paying attention. The god then uses his extraordinarily powers to force whatever he made up to actually happen. Sometimes the god literally doesn't have to do anything, others the god may need to influence a game of poker, and even sometimes the god may have to change someone's gender or disintegrate someone on the spot. The only things that seem to be constant is that Fred himself will never be directly affected by the god. Second the god seems to be neither particularly kind nor benevolent. It'll give good or bad fortunes alike to both the best of heroes and the worst of villains.
Other things of interest is he keeps his caramel brown hair cut short, and he often wears his prescription glasses.
